    Description

    Summary Chess Educator/Coach is part of a deeply committed team of educators who bring chess to some of NYC's most deserving students in underserved schools. You will teach chess to elementary through middle school students during the school day. In the afternoon you will teach an after-school club. The ideal candidate has high expectations for children, is extremely organized, proactive, enthusiastic, motivated, and works well in a team setting. This position reports to the Director of School Programs.

    Hours: Part time (up to 20 hours)

    Duties

    • Prepare and implement lesson plans for classes and clubs, which include: an aim, review, lesson, activity, assessment and the ability to work within a curriculum
    • Maintain daily teacher’s planner and take classroom attendance
    • Submit accurately completed paperwork each week
    • Attend all CIS training and development seminars

    Qualifications

    • Have a substantial knowledge of chess; an advanced understanding of the game and tournament experience will be a plus
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Experience working with children
