    About Surge Reproductive Justice:

Surge is a Reproductive Justice (RJ) organization. RJ is an approach to health equity and reproductive health that uses a holistic lens to look at the whole person, their family, and their community for empowerment opportunities. The RJ approach brings together diverse communities and perspectives to reach solutions that are led by the communities most affected by reproductive oppression and racial injustice.

Our mission is to mobilize communities to build a world where all people can make powerful, self-determined choices for their bodies and the future of their families and communities. Our work centers Black women, femmes, and Black queer and trans people for a movement that rises from the bottom up. Currently we are working on Black perinatal health, Medicaid access for doulas, and decriminalizing sex work in the state of Washington.

    About the Position:

Surge Reproductive Justice seeks a Resource Organizer who will work with the Executive Director, Deputy Director, and board to steward and implement the fundraising strategy at Surge. This individual will need to bring both innovation and best practices to ensure Surge Reproductive Justice is implementing a creative, effective, and mission-aligned approach to resource mobilization and maintaining the current $1.5 million dollar budget. Design, implement and track a robust, diversified, and measurable annual development plan to attract and retain a broad base of support from donors. Monitor and evaluate progress toward fundraising goals; and recommend changes or additions to the plan, as needed.

    Metrics and Measures of Impact:

    • The Resource Organizer will be expected to design a development plan that has the goal of raising a minimum of 20% of the total organizational budget through the Resource Mobilizing Program and individual donors.
    • The Resource Organizer will be expected to annually identify prospective grants in the amount that equals to or greater than the annual organizational budget.

    Responsibilities will include:

Resource Mobilizing Program and Sustainers Circle (40% of time):

    • Research best practices for grassroots donor engagement, management and recognition
    • Create and lead a Resource Mobilizing Program cohort program and Sustainers Circle that meets the annual giving goals and strategies:
      • Conduct meetings with resource mobilizers, and other key stakeholders.
      • Develop and organize RMP activities, trainings, and engagement process
      • Cultivate resource mobilizers who want to solicit gifts from their networks
      • Measure and evaluate impact of RMP on gifts received
    • Create a donor list and tracking system with existing and new data
    • Oversee donor data, ensuring the ongoing integrity of the donor database and processing of all gift entries and acknowledgements.
    • Develop proactive and innovative strategies to identify and recruit new resource mobilizers
    • Design and steward annual giving campaigns
    • Design and steward recurring online giving campaigns

    Grant Support (40% of time)

    • Build a grants calendar with dates and relevant tracking information
    • Research prospective grants and foundations and develop and maintain a tracking system
    • Attend prospective grant informational sessions
    • Assist with LOI’s and grant applications as needed

Program and Administration Support (20% of time):

    • Co-Design the SRJ annual report
    • Collaborate with the Communications Lead to visually highlight SRJ work through social media, media development, and visual content.
    • Represent SRJ in funding spaces
    • Be proactive in finding opportunities to highlight SRJ's work and raise awareness of the work to potential funders and donors.

Specific skills and experience that are most critical for this job include:

    • We are requiring at least two years of experience in fundraising and or development.
    • Must have two years of grant writing experience.
    • Will be inspired and passionate about reproductive justice and ensuring that all communities and people have access to resources and have autonomy over their bodies and community to create or not create the families they choose, and to thrive in their communities.
    • Analysis and commitment to anti-racism.
    • Track record as a collaborative teammate who can also thrive in independent projects.
    • A well-developed interpersonal skill set — especially active listening, empathy, patience, and relationship building.
    • Flexibility to adjust to the needs of an emerging organization.
