    Description

    The Temporary Accountant plays a vital role in the Business Office by providing interim support to ensure the continuity of essential accounting functions during a staff member's absence. This position assists in managing the School’s fundraising and endowment funds to ensure accurate recording of transactions.

    Reporting directly to the Controller, the Temporary Accountant will perform essential accounting tasks, including general ledger analysis, transaction reviews, journal entries, and account reconciliations. In addition, this role generates special reports as needed and will assist with year-end audit activities and preparing the 990 tax return.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure accurate and timely recording, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting of investment activities for the Kinkaid Endowment and Investment Foundation.
    • Coordinate the accounting and reconciliation of donations and pledges in collaboration with the Advancement office.
    • Assist with the year-end audit, and preparation of tax returns, including the 990 and related audit schedules.
    • Assist with cash flow management by reconciling bank and investment accounts.
    • Track restricted gifts and related activities. Ensure accurate and appropriate coding and/or approval of all revenue, expenditure, and journal transactions to their appropriate accounts.

    Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, management, or equivalent is required. CPA certification preferred.
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, including non-profit accounting
    • Ability to create and maintain a warm, supportive environment that serves colleagues, parents, trustees, and students with patience, flexibility, and enthusiasm.
    • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office products and other computerized accounting and business systems (experience with Blackbaud is a plus)
    • Highest regard for confidentiality, exemplary ethical standards, integrity, and respect for others
