    Description

    Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School is seeking an experienced learning specialist and educator to join its Middle School Student Support Team. The additional part-time learning specialist will help assess academic needs, and provide individual and small group support to diverse learners in and out of the classroom in reading, writing, math, and executive functioning. They will monitor and evaluate student progress using formal and informal assessments, target instruction and tailor supports to meet individual learning goals.

    The learning specialist will work closely with classroom teachers to plan lessons and assignments, provide push-in support during whole group instruction, offer guidance for differentiation, and consultation on accommodating a range of learning styles in the classroom. They will collaborate closely with the Director of Student Support Services, other learning specialists, counselors, and principals to better understand and meet the needs of students across the middle school.

    A background in special education and specialized training in reading and writing instruction and interventions is ideal for this role. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also essential in this position, as the learning specialist will develop individualized student support plans, communicate with parents about academic needs, supports, and progress, as well as collaborate with other professionals, including tutors, psychologists, and other providers.

    The part-time learning specialist role is a 10 month position. Master’s degree in Education or Special Education required. Minimum of 3-5 years post graduate experience.
