    Overview of CommonLit

    CommonLit is a nonprofit edtech organization dedicated to closing the literacy opportunity gap, which disproportionately affects students living in poverty. To achieve this goal, CommonLit provides a highly effective, comprehensive reading program utilized by millions of teachers and students around the U.S. and internationally. We are a team of passionate professionals – many of whom are former teachers. We are a cross-disciplinary remote team of 100 full-time employees spread across ~30 states, with a main office in Washington, D.C.

    The Opportunity

    The Development Marketing Coordinator will be a part of CommonLit’s philanthropy team which drives millions of dollars to the organization through charitable donations. The role will play a crucial role in driving donor engagement, outreach, cultivation, and lead generation to support the organization’s annual multi-million dollar fundraising campaign. This candidate will develop and execute targeted marketing campaigns, conduct research to uncover new donor leads, and create compelling marketing content across multiple channels. The role focuses on researching and identifying prospective leads, building awareness among new prospects, planning and executing donor marketing campaigns, and nurturing potential donors through the pipeline, working closely with the fundraising and internal marketing and design teams. The ideal candidate will be a proactive marketer who understands audience segmentation, digital marketing, and donor psychology, and can translate the organization’s mission and impact into highly engaging marketing campaigns.

    The anticipated start date for this role is early February.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Lead Generation and Acquisition

    • Conduct lead generation research to identify new donor prospects, leveraging external databases, networks, and digital tools (e.g., iWave, HubSpot, RocketReach, etc.)
    • Develop marketing campaigns for new donor acquisition and lead nurturing, focusing on early-stage donor cultivation
    • Develop campaigns for retargeting past prospects and re-engaging lapsed donors

    Donor Cultivation and Engagement

    • Support the development and implementation of donor cultivation strategies, including planning and executing quarterly campaigns and touchpoints
    • Work with the fundraising team to integrate lead generation strategies with overall donor cultivation efforts and ensure smooth transitions from marketing to direct engagement
    • Plan, develop, and execute a regular cadence of ongoing marketing campaigns that effectively engage donors and support fundraising initiatives

    Content Creation and Asset Development

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (research, PMO, program teams) to gather insights and develop marketing assets that communicate the organization’s impact
    • Design and produce a variety of marketing assets, including slide decks, presentations, one-pagers, impact reports, and other digital materials that highlight the organization’s work and impact
    • Synthesize all research studies, activities, and findings to package and promote to external audiences through a variety of formats alongside our Data Strategist

    Data and Campaign Optimization

    • Maintain and update the fundraising team’s CRM (HubSpot) with a focus on tracking lead engagement, optimizing pipeline flow, and ensuring accuracy in donor data
    • Analyze the effectiveness of lead generation and marketing campaigns, providing regular reports with data-driven insights and recommendations for improvement

    Qualifications

    • 2-4 years of prior experience in a marketing role
    • Strong project management skills, with experience in creating timelines, managing resources, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
    • Strong writing and content creation skills, with experience in creating a variety of marketing assets.
    • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Passion for the organization’s mission and a commitment to making a positive impact.

    Physical & Additional Requirements

    This role involves prolonged periods in a stationary position at a desk and working on a computer.
