WHO ARE WE…

Sadie Nash Leadership Project provides award-winning experiential social justice education to more than 500 young women and gender-expansive youth of color in New York City and Newark each year. Operating with love and rigor, we use the tools of popular education to build critical consciousness, community, and college readiness. We strengthen, empower, and equip our participants to lead lives in committed pursuit of joy and liberation for self and community.

Our award-winning flagship program, Summer Institute (SI), is an immersive 6-week program for high school students, where participants (lovingly called Nashers) explore themes related to leadership, feminism, and social justice. Through classes, workshops, field trips, and intimate conversations with community leaders, we introduce concepts of power, identity, and privilege so that our Nashers can articulate and critically analyze their personal experiences within a broader political context and through project based learning.

SI operates at four in-person sites: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Newark, NJ.

SITE LEADER POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are seeking responsible and detail-oriented Site Leaders at four in-person sites of our summer program. Site Leaders are charged with the oversight of a Summer Institute site, assuming a range of teaching responsibilities as well as duties related to program coordination and support of staff.

Site Leaders work in pairs to cultivate the unique culture of each location. Site Leaders supervise Deans (college-aged interns who serve as teaching assistants and direct mentors to youth) and Faculty (experienced educators who teach interactive courses) as well as facilitate a course.

The Site Leader position is from June 16, 2025 - August 20, 2025. This position requires a full-time, in-person commitment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Program Development & Management:

• Teaching and Curriculum Development: Teach 1-2 classes on leadership and social justice, with support from a Dean weekly. Includes fostering and maintaining our culture of continuous learning by adapting curriculum to meet the specific needs of assigned students.
• Program Management: Oversee daily programming & operations including monitoring surveys, attendance, punctuality, and stipend requests. Ensuring that paperwork is completed, collected, and archived. Assisting with site visits, open houses, and events. Monitoring expenses and requesting purchases. Onboarding waitlisted youth participants into the program to meet program goals.
• Community Relationship Building: Serve as the main point person for site partners and external contacts. Leading orientation sessions for youth participants and their families. Assigning Nashers to cohorts and courses. Coordinate community building events. Chaperoning and ensuring successful implementation of field trips. Corresponding with and verifying weekly guest speakers. Planning & implementing an end-of-program celebration.

Supervision:

• Training: Facilitation of training for support staff including site specific training for deans.
• Professional Development: Provide feedback and support through supervisory relationships and lead regular check-ins with staff. Facilitate processes of community-building and conflict resolution.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

To be successful in this position, you will need to meet the following:

• Youth Development/Out-of-School Programming Experience: Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree or at least 3-4 years of equivalent experience; candidate also has at minimum 2 years experience in youth development (ideally in summer programs).
• Leadership/Supervision Experience: Candidates must have at least 1 year of experience leading/supervising a cohesive, positive, and results-oriented team. Joyful and strength-based leadership (i.e., the ability to see value in every team member and communicate respect and encouragement to folks at all levels).
• Curriculum Development and Facilitation: Candidates should have experience facilitating curricula for core constituencies: young women of color and gender-expansive youth, young adults, communities of color. This includes facilitating processes of community-building and conflict resolution.
• Facilitation and Relationship Building: Candidates should have facilitation experience with the ability to create a brave space and build community. This also includes commitment to and grounding in intersectional feminism, racial and gender equity, LGBTQIA+ rights.
• Program Management: Ability to handle a variety of administrative projects at once, prioritizing tasks, managing time well, and delegating as needed.

KEY DATES OF THE POSITION:

• June 16 - July 2: Site Leader, Dean, and Faculty Training (generally 10 am - 6 pm; Monday - Friday)
• Saturday, June 28 - Summer Institute Nasher & Parent Orientation (10 am - 12 pm)
• July 7 - August 14: Summer Program (9 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday; Fridays are half days)
• August 15 - August 20: Close-Out Administration Work (10 am - 5 pm; can be completed virtually if all in person duties are completed)
