Responsibilities Include:
Volunteer Coordination:
- Responsible for the recruitment, screening, training, placement and referral of youth and adult volunteers to Sterling programs, departments, and externally within the Stratford Community.
- Maintain volunteer data and records, including for the Counselors-In-Training and Junior Counselor Program for Summer Camp.
- Recruit, assign, onboard and supervise interns supporting our organization. Serve as liaison between Sterling CC departments and assigned colleges.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community agencies, partner organizations, school staff, and town personnel.
- Engage and work with youth to encourage participation in community service and service learning through volunteer opportunities, service clubs, workshops, leadership development, and more.
Marketing & Outreach:
- Create and update promotional information and flyers for assigned programs and events.
- Effectively promote Sterling programs and events through our social media channels, email marketing lists, and creative outreach strategies in the community.
- Coordinate the town-wide Stratford Calendar, to inform residents of ongoing programs and events while encouraging positive engagement across our community.
- Capture Sterling programs, events, and community happenings via photography, video, testimonials, etc.
Community Engagement:
- Develop relationships, attend meetings, and interact with Town/ Community agencies; Stratford Public
Schools, Stratford Youth & Family Advisory Board, Stratford Community Services, Stratford Youth
Leadership Council, Stratford Community Organizations Council (SCOC), Portrait of a Graduate (BOE),
Restaurant Week Babysitting, Shakespeare Market & Community initiatives and more.
- Develop and implement service projects and community events such as our Community Cares Projects, Initiative to Inspire Committee, Volunteer Appreciation events, and more.
- Organize all aspects of our Annual Teen Scholarship distribution, including application submission, scholarship decisions, award presentation, and all communication with both the scholarship donors and the High Schools.
- Collaborate with Development Department to engage corporate partners, including hosting Corporate
Volunteer Days and Open Houses.
- Assist with public relations and promotional activities to shine a light on the organization.
Other Duties:
- Engage in consistent evaluation of community programs and initiatives to assess areas of strength, necessary improvements, effectiveness, and outcomes.
- Assist with other programs, special events, initiatives as assigned.
- Attend supervisory meetings and organizational staff trainings and meetings.
- Serve as an exemplary representation of SCC in the community in personal language, appearance, professionalism, and embodiment of our organizational values.
Qualifications & Attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in non-profit administration, or relevant degree.
- Skills in volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition.
- Knowledge of the Stratford and Greater Bridgeport communities.
- Experience and enjoyment working with diverse populations with a customer service orientation; including a wide range of volunteers, interns, executives, donors, community members, and partners.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to embody the Sterling voice.
- Able to clearly articulate and promote the mission of Sterling Community Center, while building and maintaining positive relationships with; staff, volunteers, board members, participants, funders, media, and all other stakeholders.
- A strong desire to actively engage with the community- a change-maker and positive thinker.
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in data management, utilization of online registration platforms, and Adobe CC, Canva, and social media platforms.
- Ability to multi-task, remain calm and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
- Driven to take initiative to work toward ongoing improvements and innovation, including personal and professional development.
- Mission-driven, team-player who is passionate about working in a bustling and diverse community center environment.
- Ability to lift approximately 40 pounds of supplies and load/unload/drive SCC van to community events as needed.
- Valid Driver’s License and approved background check.
