This position requires weekly in-office work (3 days) in our Washington D.C. office under a hybrid working model.
Position Summary:
The LeadingAge Marketing & Communications team seeks a communications specialist to support a variety of projects and processes. Ideal candidates will have a wide range of skills and interests in the communications field and will take pride in executing projects on a tactical level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Public Relations/Communications
- Assist in creating and executing internal and external communications, including member-focused stories and other content.
- Create media lists via Meltwater, Cision, or other databases.
- Develop publicity materials and media kits.
- Conduct research that includes media as well as influencer identification.
- Monitor media placements and create reports.
- Help with pitching/media outreach and press releases.
- Support the execution of PR tactics to enhance brand awareness and reputation.
- Collaborate with department staff in posting, uploading content, updating/refreshing web pages.
Content Creation
- Develop and curate engaging content for social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and Instagram stories to maintain audience engagement and elevate LeadingAge’s brand.
- Monitor social media channels for industry trends and share findings with team members.
- Establish tracking systems to report campaign and content engagement to help refine and optimize content strategies.
- Draft content and publish, as appropriate, across LeadingAge's communication channels.
OTHER
- Support the corporate partner program via social media posts, ads, creation, etc.
- Organize files and project documents.
- Complete other projects as assigned by the marketing and communications leadership to support departmental and organizational goals.
- Provide administrative support to the marketing and communications team, including scheduling meetings and managing content calendars, newsletter schedules, and more.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, journalism, or related field required and three years of similar or related communications experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace products.
- Familiarity with content management systems, such as WordPress and Squarespace.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be organized, reliable, and possess a keen attention to detail.
- Must have an ability to work independently, under pressure, and within moving and competing deadlines.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, and willingness to offer new ideas.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and take direction from multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Flourish, experience is a plus.
ADA SPECIFICATIONS
- Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
- Ability to learn/translate/refer to large amounts of technical material and produce written communications.
- Ability to travel to external meetings both locally and nationally, including periodic overnight travel.
- Normal work requires frequent use telephone and computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse).
- Ability to be move about at Annual Meeting; Leadership Summit Conference; and other meetings and events.
- May be required to move about frequently in the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, attend meetings, etc.
- May require standing/sitting for prolonged periods of time during meetings and conferences.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The salary range for this full-time, (37.5-hour work week), exempt, D.C. based position is ($65,003-$68,424). Salary offered may vary depending on relevant factors as determined by LeadingAge, which may include, but are not limited to, background and experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, certifications and licensures, internal equity, geographic location and other organizational needs. Salaries for candidates hired outside of the DMV will have salary adjusted using Economic Research Institute’s, Geographic Tool Assessor.
For full-time positions, we offer:
