    The Program Associate will be responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of the Language Rights program. This role involves managing various administrative and communication tasks to ensure that all interpretation requests for Mayan languages are handled promptly and executed according to the standards established by the Program. The person in this position will collaborate with Mayan League staff members and partners to support existing programming and volunteer initiatives. The ideal candidate for this position has a strong belief in the work of the Mayan League's programs and goals. This job is a full-time temporary role, requiring 35 hours of work per week for a duration of 90 days.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor, review, and respond to interpreter requests for Mayan languages made by clients in a timely manner to ensure that all pending requests are addressed promptly.
    • Identify and procure an interpreter from the Mayan League’s interpreter network in accordance with the interpreter identification process and secure an effective connection between the requester and the interpreter according to the language requested and variant spoken by the client.
    • If Mayan League interpreters are not able to fill a client’s request, coordinate the referral process between the Mayan League and Mayan language interpreters of partner organizations.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with both interpreters and clients, providing coordination and necessary assistance tailored to the requester’s needs.
    • Provide detailed reports on pending and completed interpretation requests to the Program Director or Executive Director.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for any questions or issues related to interpretation requests, coordinating tasks with necessary staff to ensure the smooth operation of the Language Rights Program.
    • Update and manage internal databases, tracking systems, and programmatic data to support program implementation; track hours of services delivered and support with necessary paperwork on behalf of the interpreters on a case-by-case basis.
    • Participate in weekly Program Team and All-Staff staff meetings, providing program-related updates to Mayan League teams and participating in weekly substantive check-ins with the Program Director and Executive Director.
    • Provide general administrative, clerical, and program support for the Language Rights Program.
    • Manage the interpretation assignments calendar.
    • Provide communications support during live events and other community outreach efforts.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience supporting community-centered program activities or interpreter services
    • At least one year of experience related to office administration
    • Multilingual, with a minimum of Spanish and English fluency; proficiency in a Mayan or an Indigenous language is a plus but not required.
    • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and efficient.
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with strong planning, organizational, and follow-up skills.
    • Able to work with a diverse population and staff and communicate authentically and respectfully to resolve conflict across lines of difference
    • Experience engaging community and movement organizations, preferably with strong relationships with organizations doing Indigenous justice work.
    • Experience or familiarity with Indigenous Peoples’ rights, including those of Indigenous women, as well as human rights, environmental protection, environmental justice, climate justice, and social justice, is highly valued.
    • Strong computer knowledge and skills, including proficiency in Microsoft and Google operating systems.
    • Able to manage and utilize various technology platforms to communicate with clients and interpreters, including email, Google Chat/Meet, WhatsApp, SIGNAL, and Zoom.
    • May be required to work on the weekends and evenings
