    Who We Are

Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts (PPESA) represents the 5 Planned Parenthood Affiliates in New York and is committed to advocating for policies that boldly expand access to affordable, quality health care, strengthen sexual and reproductive rights, and advance a vision of reproductive justice. Our mission is to help build a world in which every person — regardless of their race, income, insurance, gender identity, sexual orientation, abilities, or immigration status — can access expert, compassionate sexual and reproductive health care, information, and education without shame or judgement.

    Position Summary

The Organizing Director leads the development and implementation of a strategic field program to bolster statewide Planned Parenthood advocacy efforts. This role involves coordinating organizing activities across the five Planned Parenthood Affiliates throughout New York State. The primary focus is on building and nurturing long-term power-building infrastructure statewide. By integrating deep and scalable organizing practices across New York, the Organizing Director will spearhead campaigns in sexual and reproductive health and other progressive issues that impact Planned Parenthood patients and supporters.

In this crucial role, you'll work closely with PPESA leadership and affiliates staff to:

    • Develop and implement a strategic field program across New York's five Planned Parenthood Affiliates
    • Develop and execute issue campaigns, focusing on reproductive health and related progressive causes
    • Coordinate year-round organizing and engagement efforts
    • Lead rapid response mobilizations to protect reproductive freedom
    • Forge strategic partnerships with cross-movement organizations
    • Collaborate with Planned Parenthood Federation and affiliates to integrate organizing training into our overall strategy
    • Identify needs and implement supports that help affiliates and PPESA achieve state and local organizing goals.

    The ideal candidate will bring:

    • 3-5 years of organizing experience, including management roles
    • A passion for Planned Parenthood's mission and enthusiasm for advocacy
    • Experience in grassroots, legislative, paid, and volunteer organizing
    • Strong project management and goal-setting skills
    • Expertise in campaign planning and field strategy
    • Proficiency with VAN voter database software
    • Comfort discussing sexual and reproductive health, politics, and public policy
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
    • Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders
    • Clear communication skills and a nimble work style

    Travel Requirements

This position involves travel within New York State. The role requires attendance at one annual statewide conference, several smaller conference days and lobby days throughout the year, each usually requiring 1-2 days of travel. These events are crucial for networking, advocacy, and coordinating efforts across the state.

    Compensation

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000, commensurate with experience.
