    Description

    The Black Swan Academy is a non-profit organization in DC that concentrates its efforts on empowering Black youth through Civic Leadership and Engagement. We are committed to creating a pipeline of Black youth leaders who are committed to improving themselves, as well as their communities. We are seeking a part-time Communications Coordinator to lead creation and management of the organization’s communications & marketing resources & strategy. This position reports to the Co-Executive Director of Operations.

    Job responsibilities

    • Write and/or design public relations and marketing materials such as flyers, press releases, blog posts, and newsletters for youth and adult audiences
    • Create and implement a content calendar for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
    • Manage social media networks including content creation, audience interaction and org wide social media policies, standards, and norms
    • Support coordinating and preparing staff and youth for public speaking engagements (i.e. panels, media interviews)
    • Track and report analytics on marketing and communications campaigns and coordinating promotional events
    • Respond to media inquiries and maintain relationships with journalists and other members of the press
    • Capture and/or coordinate photography & videography for programs & special events
    • Design and facilitate occasional skill-building workshops related to communications & marketing for youth members
    • Collect metrics for outreach, communications, and social media that demonstrate successes and areas that need improvement
    • Maintain records of youth and staff photo and media release forms
    • Manage social media ads that engage larger audiences across our platforms
    • Implement and maintain broadcasting messaging
    • Lead strategic direction of external organizational communications, in consultation with the Co-Executive Director of Operations

    Qualifications

    • 2+ years experience in a communications or marketing role
    • Strong time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
    • Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    • Knowledge of email marketing software such as Mailchimp or a similar program
    • Experience running social media platforms
    • Strong public speaking abilities
    • Demonstrated commitment to youth leadership, racial equity and systemic change
