    About Advokids

    Advokids is the only non-profit legal advocacy organization in California dedicated to securing the safety and well-being of children and youth in the foster care system. We provide the only free statewide legal services, legal trainings and online child welfare legal library for anyone concerned about a child in foster care or at risk of entering care. We advocate for systemic reform of the child welfare system to benefit all children in the state.

    Job Purpose

    The Development Associate reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and supports Advokids’ ability to grow and leverage relationships to expand our funding and client base and to effectively communicate our work to the community. The Development Associate has primary responsibility for donor research, gift processing and acknowledgments, donor database management, and other administrative duties. The Development Associate also supports Advokids’ communication efforts by actively maintaining our outreach calendar and by creating and coordinating social media, email and hardcopy communication campaigns.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Individual Donor Development and Management

    • Implement strategies to engage and steward donors through newsletters, meetings, events, and other initiatives
    • Manage and maintain donor database (Salesforce) including donor contact information, giving history, and communications between donors and Advokids
    • Enter and acknowledge all gifts to Advokids
    • Support financial and donor reports and analyses
    • Conduct research on individual prospects, as well as ongoing research in business, philanthropy, and related fields to identify potential donors and sources of donor information
    • Coordinate and execute all email, social media and direct mail fundraising campaigns
    • Assist in planning and executing donor appreciation events
    • Assist with Board engagement and cultivation efforts
    • Maintain donor cultivation calendar
    • Work with outside marketing consultants
    • Provide Salesforce Database Administration support

    Foundation/Grant Support

    • Assist with grant reporting as needed
    • Compile attachments for complex grant proposals
    • Maintain development files (hard and electronic copies)
    • Track grant awards and report timelines in Salesforce

    Fundraising Events

    • Assist with the planning and execution of donor cultivation events
    • Assist with the coordination and execution of the annual fundraising gala including in-kind donation outreach and coordination

    Qualifications:

    • Interest, enthusiasm and affinity for Advokids’ mission
    • Ability to communicate organizational mission, values, and current work clearly and effectively with donors both in writing and in interpersonal communication
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience
    • Self starter, proactive problem solver
    • Experience using Microsoft Office, Adobe, Google Suite, Salesforce, Zoom, and survey platforms
    • Experience using MailChimp or comparable marketing platform
    • Basic experience with graphics editing and Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficient in business correspondence and communications
    • Experience working and communicating effectively with people from diverse backgrounds

    Benefits

    This is a part time, non-exempt position working 24 hours per week, Monday - Thursday. Compensation is $35-$40 per hour depending on experience. Advokids offers its employees a monthly Health Care Costs Reimbursement Program, 401k plan, 4 weeks of PTO annually, plus 12 paid holidays.
