    USCPR Action is seeking a Political Director to build the 501(c)(4), and lead our federal legislative and prospective electoral work. This is a critical moment in American politics with the movement for Palestinian liberation growing stronger every day. USCPR Action is looking to harness this momentum to build our political muscle and organize the progressive movement to win on key issues for Palestine.

    The Political Director will be the chief strategist and public representative of USCPR Action in various settings, from Congress to political coalitions. They will lead the build-out of the 501(c)(4), which includes the development and execution of federal legislative and electoral strategies and campaigns. This also includes ancillary responsibilities like maintaining the compliance infrastructure and supporting fundraising. They will expand USCPR Action’s political relationships while deepening existing ones.

    The Political Director will be a part of USCPR/A’s senior leadership team and expected to support staff and the campaigns across the organizations. They will work in close partnership with the Programs department to advise and support state and local grassroots partners involved in advocacy campaigns. Additionally, they will be responsible for building out and supervising other staff for the Political team.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Federal Legislative Campaigns

    • Develop all aspects of legislative campaign planning from campaign strategy, research, power mapping, coalition building, and plan execution.
    • Build and expand USCPR Action’s profile in the federal political space.
    • Grow Congressional relationships with a focus on committee leaders and senior staff and caucus leaders.
    • Identify new interventions and opportunities that can be leveraged for successful policy wins.
    • Serve as the public spokesperson for USCPR Action.

    Progressive Coalition Building

    • Build relationships with peers at national progressive organizations, from labor unions to think tanks.
    • Organize national progressive partners to take collective action at critical political moments.
    • Represent USCPR Action in relevant coalition spaces with partner organizations.
    • Shape and drive narrative strategies on how U.S. military funding to Israel impacts domestic issues.

    Senior Leadership and Development

    • Manage, develop, and support staff and consultants on the Political team.
    • Work across departments to advise and support ongoing campaigns with political strategies.
    • Serve on the USCPR/A senior leadership and help drive the organizational and communications strategy of the (c)(4).
    • Collaborate with the fiscal sponsor and operations staff to manage compliance, finance, and other logistical needs.
    • Support on (c)(4) fundraising as needed.
    • Build out future electoral and other political programs for the (c)(4).

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 7-10 years of experience in legislative work
    • Preference for a background working in Congress, a federal agency, or another legislative body
    • Aligned with the values of USCPR and USCPR Action
    • Knowledge of Palestine and U.S. politics, Congress, the grassroots and grasstops progressive movement
    • Highly skilled in strategic campaign planning, coalition building, stakeholder management, and program building
    • Experience with senior leadership and staff supervision
    • Strong written and communication skills
    • Strong creative problem-solving skills
    • Accountability to Palestinian communities and colleagues
    • Highly relational and empathetic listener and communicator

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    This job will require frequent visits to Capitol Hill and other nearby locations. Travel outside the DC area will be less than 20% of work time.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    • This is a hybrid position where staff can work from home if they are not required to be on the Hill or at other in-person events.
    • Hours are 9AM to 5PM with the expectation that staff will sometimes need to work long and/or irregular hours when Congress is in-session.
