    Child Care Teacher Job Description

    Job Duties & Responsibilities:

      • Maintain and update children’s files, assessments, and observations.
      • Ensure compliance with State and City standards on a daily basis. Report any compliance difficulties in writing to the Day Care Director and to the Executive Director if no action is taken within a reasonable time.
      • Actively participate in monthly parent meetings and staff meetings, keeping clear and accurate minutes that are properly filed. Recommend relevant topics to the Director.
      • Teach actively, guiding other classroom staff as needed.
      • Organize the classroom according to sound educational principles, ensuring it remains neat, clean, and orderly.
      • Keep inventory current, organized, and neat.
      • Prepare work orders for necessary repairs.
      • Decorate the classroom appropriately, avoiding damage to walls and ceilings.
      • Teach children how to care for plants.
      • Foster positive staff relations and a cooperative spirit.
      • Encourage positive relationships between staff and parents.
      • Build bridges of understanding and cooperation between individuals from Eastern and Western cultures, as well as among those of Asian ancestry.
      • Attend meetings, training sessions, and retreats as required by DCYS, DCFS, State Pre-K, or SEAC.
      • Prepare daily lesson plans in accordance with DCYS, DCFS, State Pre-K, and SEAC, submitting them to the Supervisor bi-weekly. Post lesson plans in the classroom consistently.
      • Maintain good communication and cooperation with all staff and parents.
      • Attend to any child remaining after closing if no other staff members are on duty. Ensure completion of in-service training, workshops, and self-education to meet funder and SEAC requirements. Keep records of such courses in personnel files.
      • Assume additional bureaucratic responsibilities as assigned by the Day Care Director.

    Qualifications:

      • 18 semester hours of Elementary or Early Childhood Education/CD courses; a B.A. in ECE/CD
      • M.A. degree in related field is preferred.
      • Must be at least 20 years of age.
      • Knowledge of and sensitivity to South-east Asian or other minority cultures is desirable.
      • General administrative and record-keeping skills are required.
      • One year of related experience or more is preferred.
    • Salary range: $24 - $28/hr.
