    The Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of Elders, (CARIE) is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1977 and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable older adults. CARIE is recognized throughout the region and the country as a resource for a wide range of people seeking to resolve elder care issues. CARIE currently has 30 staff positions with an annual budget of nearly $3,000,000.

    About Providing Advocacy for Victimized Elders (PAVE):

    This position is part of the PAVE team. The program comprises of trained advocates who assist elder victims (60+) of crime in Philadelphia. They ensure elders are aware of their rights as victims of crime and advocate for them to have equitable access to the criminal justice process.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provides one-on-one emotional and therapeutic support for elders eligible for short term counseling services either in person, telephone, or at long-term care facilities
    • Maintains confidential client records and case notes
    • Maintains professional licensure
    • Actively and effectively engages in appropriate outreach activities to educate elder victims of crime and abuse of services available
    • Assist victims of elder abuse and crime navigate the criminal justice and/or protective services system
    • Advocates for clients so they receive the services and supports available to them
    • Help clients prepare victim impact statements
    • Accompanies clients to legal proceedings at the Criminal Justice Center (e.g. preliminary hearings, trials, sentencing, etc.)
    • Provides crisis counseling and emotional support for elder victims, including safety planning
    • Assists clients in the Victim Compensation application process
    • Refers clients to other community partners and agencies as appropriate
    • Follows‐up with victims as appropriate
    • Assists in collecting information needed to complete outcomes measurement
    • Attends staff meetings, appropriate community meetings and required training
    • Develop psychoeducational materials for older adults and community members on identifying, preventing, and accessing help for victims of domestic violence
    • Develop educational presentations and materials for community partners and stakeholders who serve elder domestic and familial violence victims

    Requirements:

    • MSW, MA in Counseling, or related degree, and at least 2 years’ experience in counseling older adults
    • LSW Certification
    • Experience in and/or knowledge of trauma informed care
    • Experience in and/or knowledge of the criminal justice system, resources for older persons and their caregivers, and long-term care systems
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Public speaking/training expertise
