    Description

    GREAT OPPORTUNITY! Colegio Americano del Sur (CAS) has an English High School Language Arts classroom teaching position available, starting this year to complete the year and returning in January 2025 to complete the 2025 school year. (Our school year runs from January 6th to November 6th, 2024.) (A Re-up contract for the 2026 school year is available if requested.)

    This position entails teaching Language Arts to 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. There are extra-curricular activities that are included in the list of responsibilities each teacher has. (Once the school year begins, these activities can be chosen or additional ideas can be suggested by the applicant.)

    We are a bilingual, laboratory school (LAB), and utilize cutting-edge teaching strategies to better meet the learning needs of each of our students. We strive to nurture effective communication skills, master core academic content, and engage in inquiry-based lessons. Our goal is to encourage each student to learn the way he/she learns best. We strive to offer learning experiences and educational expectations academically, intellectually, and personally challenging for all students. Project-based learning strategies are incorporated across the grade levels. We use Socratic Seminars often to engage our students and also use NEWSELA to support differentiation. Our MAP testing is aligned with Khan Academy as well as NEWSELA for more efficiency.

    Technology is very important at CAS. We have a highly qualified IT department and a vast amount of technological equipment included in our learning environment. We have several 3D Printers as well as educational drones which add to our technology classes curriculum. Our Robotics program is school-wide. We have competed in Uruguay and Puerto Rico.

    We are heavily engaged in a community outreach program with local public schools and public school teachers. This experience will impact your outlook on life and will create a lasting effect on your future role in the global world. It has made a great impact on our students and staff. The qualifications for this High School position are the following:

    • a minimum of 2 years of classroom experience and proven skills in leadership, group facilitation, organization, writing, listening, and communication.
    • ability to work independently yet seek support if necessary
    • excellent communication skills.
    • a passion for student achievement, the conviction that all students can learn, and a high drive to meet the needs of every student.
    • an intimate understanding and application of U.S. education.
    • experience teaching High School English curriculum.
    • a strong advocate for students and teachers.
    • ability to differentiate curriculum and instruction for diverse ability learners.
    • an interest in literature and a love of reading.
    • current in educational research on cutting-edge practices through online research and literature.
    • think outside the box when it comes to class planning and student engagement.
    • flexibility to take on responsibilities that are not included in actual job descriptions when necessary. (Common in all international school settings. We provide the opportunity for you to engage in activities that you enjoy and are of interest to you.)

    $1000 travel expenses paid at completion of contract

    $1000 bonus at the completion of the contract.

    Two week vacation in July (mid-break)

    Guatemalan culture exposure

    Ability to travel around the country and explore.

    Spanish language emersion.

    Ability to travel around beautiful Guatemala.
