    Reporting to the Chief of Public Safety, this position provides support of the department’s mission for the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors to the school.

    Salary range is $65,000 to $70,000 annually.

    Role Responsibilities

    • Ensures the successful day-to-day activities of the Public Safety Department office and helps oversee all security operations to include ensuring the security and safety of public performances and auditions within the Irene Diamond Building.
    • Proactively checks in daily, and frequently with the Chief of Public Safety on their daily agenda; immediately informs the Chief of Public Safety of all matters concerning Public Safety and PS Officers
    • Onboard new department employees, develop better people systems for Public Safety, and develop evacuation and safety communications for all employees and students
    • Prepare documents and reports, prioritizing and responding to emails, compiling records, payroll, scheduled meetings, organizing and maintaining information, analyzing data including budgetary expenditures, overtime and provide general office support
    • Work closely with Chief Safety Officer and Lead Public Safety Officers on
      • scheduling and organizing operations of the in-house team of public safety officers
      • development of the annual Public Safety Department operating capital budget that reflects Department strategy
      • providing feedback and disciplining public safety officers, as needed
      • coordinating with Lincoln Center Security and in partnership with them, closely monitoring security and safety issues in Julliard residence hall, which is located in the Rose Building and is managed by Lincoln Center
    • Develops and maintains an excellent working relationships with students, faculty, staff and external customers/constituents to enhance security and emergency response efforts
    • Contribute toward goals, efforts, and additional duties as needed within Public Safety and the larger Juilliard Community
    • Work requires excellent project management and communication skills and coordination with individuals at all levels within the Juilliard community and, as needed, will represent the department to outside entities
    • Supports training, professional development, accreditation and compliance programs in regards to the public safety officers
    • Assist the Chief of Public Safety with Clery compliance including collaborating with annual security reports, liaison to the local precinct, compiling data for hiring and retention of all members of public safety
    • Facilitating and coordinating communication and response efforts as it relates to fire alarm, active shooter or any type of emergency evacuations

    Minimum Requirement

    • A Bachelor’s degree preferably in police science, business administration, communications, public administration.
    • At least 3-5 years of progressive responsibility in public safety/security, local, state or federal law enforcement and/or related administrative work experience in higher education .
    • Frequent walking around the building to ensure the safety of the community
    • Demonstrates situational awareness and emotional intelligence when working with people
    • Familiarity with human resources, operations, security and tech systems, project management, or public safety
    • Must possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), management skills, time management, organizational skills, ability to multi-task in ever changing atmosphere, best practices for an office setting, and interpersonal skills
    • Sensitivity to and understanding of, the broad range of academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and national and ethnic backgrounds of students, faculty, staff, and public
    • Demonstrates organizational skills in independently managing workload and related duties; displays ability to work in a team effort; conducts work assignments proactively and independently without constant instruction
    • Maintains the utmost discretion when dealing with sensitive topics and security matters
    • Ability to understand the breadth and impact of decisions affecting faculty, staff and students of the community
    • Proactive nature, knowledge, skill and the ability to take initiative and independently execute, organize, coordinate and perform duties in different situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved
    • Prior experience working with software applications (Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Chrome, Genetic)
    • Demonstrated commitment in working in diverse populations and furthering the school’s diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace
    • This is a 100% on-site position. No hybrid schedule.
    • Must be flexible to work extended hours or weekends on occasion due to needs of the operation

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working with, and managing union employees is a plus.
