Director

Every day, women and children are working hard to be successful in circumstances affected by poverty, violence, and neglect. Good Shepherd Volunteers (GSV) responds to this challenge by connecting recent college graduates and young adults to these needs in our communities through a one- or two-year service program. GSV is seeking an energetic Director who is eager to apply their fundraising, leadership, and administrative skills in a new and dynamic environment. GSV is a small program of a few volunteers supported by an engaged community of alums, board members, donors and Sisters of the Good Shepherd. We are poised to grow in a time blessed with a generation of young adults determined to face today's issues with creativity and humanity. We are looking for someone who lives out a profound commitment to social impact with compassion, experience and action. The successful candidate will meet fundraising and program development goals, embracing the challenge of growing the organization and strengthening its future.

Mission:

Good Shepherd Volunteers recruits, educates, and supports full-time volunteers who use their God-given talents to serve women, adolescents, and children affected by poverty, violence, and neglect in domestic and international placements. Our volunteers live out the four tenets of Social Justice, Simplicity, Spirituality, and Community, and are encouraged to maintain a commitment to these principles for a lifetime. Good Shepherd Volunteers, founded by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, is dedicated to honoring the sisters’ core values of Individual Dignity, Mercy, Reconciliation, and Zeal.

Job Responsibilities:

Leadership

• Work with the Board of Directors to develop a creative program design to ensure a forward-thinking strategy for the organization, including finalizing and implementing GSV’s 2025-2029 strategic plan
• Foster a collaborative team spirit among GSV staff, volunteers, supervisors, community support individuals and other volunteer programs
• Conduct annual staff performance evaluations, as appropriate
• Primary liaison with:
  • Board chair and committee chairs
  • Provincial leaders of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, GSV’s sponsoring organization
  • Good Shepherd domestic and international placement sites
  • Colleague programs in the Catholic Volunteer Services and similar organizations
• Manage and strengthen the work of the organization and its staff, including:
  • Building relationships with placement agencies and campus ministers/service directors
  • Primary responsibility for the recruitment, selection and placement of volunteers, with assistance from the Program Coordinator
  • Marketing initiatives including website development, social media engagement, and quarterly publication of newsletters and an annual report to donors and friends
  • Regular reporting to the Board on matters of programmatic, strategic and financial relevance
  • AmeriCorps awards
• Support and supervise the Program Coordinator in overseeing the cohort of volunteers that sustains the program, including ensuring proper evaluations of placement sites and the job performance of the volunteers

Development

• Develop and implement fundraising plans that increase the annual revenue. This includes strengthening relationships with board members and current donors, as well as identifying and cultivating new donors and sources of support. Design and submit timely proposals for fundraising campaigns, communications, and events
• Assist the Board in communicating developments in the progress and implementation of the 2025-2029 strategic plan
• Strengthen overall fundraising efforts and increase engagement with GSV alumni and other key potential supporters
• Research and apply for grants and/or corporate sponsorships and, once secured, track grant requirements and ensure compliance

Finance and Administration

• Provide financial management by developing the annual budget, monitoring receipts and expenditures, and analyzing financial health of the organization
• Coordinate with the Good Shepherd Province Business Administrator on payroll administration and the preparation of financial statements and reports
• Administer human resources policies and procedures which includes updating the program, employee, and volunteer handbooks
• Ensure adherence to audit requirements, legal and financial guidelines to ensure organizational compliance and mission alignment

Program Management

• Provide strategic vision and direction for overall program improvement and development
• Develop and approve new Good Shepherd placements sites
• Support the Program Coordinator in mentoring, counseling and managing conflict as needed to aid volunteers in their personal growth during service placement
• Participate in volunteer candidate interviews
• Implement a volunteer admissions committee to review candidates
• Lead team to facilitate orientation and four annual retreats

Job Qualifications:

• Commitment to GSV’s mission including willingness to personally grow in each of the four tenets of simplicity, social justice, spirituality, and community
• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s in nonprofit management, development or other related field preferred
• 3-5 years’ supervisory experience managing staff and budget, preferable at a nonprofit or similar organization
• 3-5 years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a clear track record or success in cultivating and soliciting donor and foundation support; grant writing experience preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent people skills and a team player: motivates and works with a wide range of people
• Proficient skills in MS Office, Word, Power Point and Excel. Experience with QuickBooks, E-Tapestry, Give Lively, Salesforce and Publisher preferred
• Highly organized; gets work done on time, with little direction
• Flexible: adjusts priorities, takes risks and embraces change
• Ability to work evenings and weekends occasionally, including 5 overnight retreats and approximately 5-7 trips per year (domestic and international)
• Willingness to spend at least three years committed to the organization
• Experience with young adult service volunteerism preferred

Salary & Benefits:

Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 annually, commensurate with experience
