    ABOUT MOTHER’S OUTREACH NETWORK

    Mother’s Outreach Network (MON) is a nonprofit organization that advances and centers the inclusion and empowerment of Black mothers in Washington, DC in the struggle for family preservation and economic security. MON is a constituency-driven organization dedicated to family preservation. Through organizing, community lawyering, and policy advocacy, MON transforms, from punitive to supportive, government income and child welfare systems, laws, policies, practices, and culture.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Associate Program Director is a new position, which reports to the Executive Director. It has been created because of the continued growth in the number and complexity of our programs and events. This person plays a key role in conducting MON’s policy research and writing as well as contributing to MON’s community organizing work with clients, coalitions, and other community-based programs. They support the implementation of MON’s community-based programs through collaboration with the staff in the outreach and legal programs, including community education, networking, and organizing components. Current initiatives that the Associate Director will support include the D.C. Guaranteed Income Coalition, and multi-faceted legislative and policy advocacy campaigns.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Working closely with and supporting the Executive Director in developing program strategies and goals.
    • Research and draft testimony for public hearings to be presented by MON’s Executive Director, MON clients and themselves.
    • Maintain knowledge of developments in areas of policy and law handled by MON.
    • Support the implementation of MON’s community-based programs and events including community education for the legal program and organizing components.
    • Draft policy and campaign materials for distribution to policymakers.
    • Draft policy and program content for traditional and social media platforms.
    • Collaborate with MON staff and stakeholders.

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

    • An attorney with a demonstrated experience working on the issues that affect no- and low-income clients, including family policy, government benefits and other areas of public interest and poverty law
    • Commitment to the mission and culture of MON.
    • At least 3 years of supervisory experience with an ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams that include a small staff, as well as a combination of more than 50 volunteers, organizational and constituent leaders.
    • Ability to initiate important conversations and listen to constructive advice from the Executive Director is essential for success in this position.
    • Demonstrated skills and styles critical for success in this role including excellent organizational skills, cultural humility, passion for working with people experiencing poverty, ability to multitask effectively on a wide-ranging portfolio of policy and grassroots projects, to work under deadlines and with a diverse array of stakeholder, and a strong work ethic.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills such as empathy, gratitude, listening and communication prowess, customer-service orientation, dependability, adaptability, sincerity, patience, kindness, and being a team collaborator who works for the success of constituents, colleagues, the organizational leadership, and the organization overall.
    • Experience working with Black mothers living in poverty is strongly preferred. The applicant’s personal background, experience, or professional background should reflect an ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations with clients, co-workers, and the community that MON serves.
    • Enthusiasm to learn, take direction, and accept constructive feedback.
    • Candidates must live in the Washington, D.C. area.

    COMPENSATION

    This is a full-time salaried position. The salary is in the mid to high $90,000 range and will align with the candidate’s relevant experience and knowledge. A health, dental and vision benefits package is provided: health insurance is covered by 100% for the employee and available to dependents. All federal holidays and all holidays observed by the District of Columbia are observed, as well as the week between Christmas and New Year.
