    About Moving Forward Coalition

    In April 2023, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Released the first comprehensive study of the challenges facing nursing homes in the United States in 35 years. The National Imperative to Improve Nursing Home Quality: Honoring Our Commitment to Residents, Families and Staff examines how our nation delivers, finances, regulates, and measures the quality of nursing home care with particular emphasis on challenges that have arisen in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. LeadingAge is establishing and running a project that includes a broad coalition of stakeholders to activate the policy and operational recommendations of the NASEM study report. We seek an experienced coalition director to assist in driving these efforts forward.

    Position Summary:

    This is a hybrid position and will require 3 days in the Washington D.C. office. This is a grant-funded, temporary, full-time position through June 30, 2027

    The Moving Forward Coalition director will lead the collaborative development and execution of a coalition-wide policy agenda. The individual will manage and direct the steering committee in identifying and building consensus on policy issues, crafting and endorsing statements, developing advocacy strategies, and executing that strategy. They will track relevant policy developments, conduct focused research, and develop public- and policymaker-facing materials. They will build partnerships and coordinate action to achieve advocacy goals. The director will work closely with the project manager on social media and communications (developing and reviewing content). They will manage the coalition’s engagement in conferences, events, and media engagement—coordinating these events and opportunities with the co-chairs and other participants.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Direct the development of a consensus-based policy agenda and strategy for the Coalition with input and support from the Co-Chair for Policy.
    • In partnership with the Co-chair for Policy, manage the steering committee, including meeting facilitation, regular communication, coordination across organizations, consensus-building, and document development.
    • With input from the Co-chair for Policy, devise and execute the Coalition’s advocacy initiatives based on steering committee consensus-building; build and maintain strategic partnerships to achieve these goals; create and manage opportunities for Coalition participant engagement in policy advocacy.
    • Track relevant federal (and as appropriate, state) policy developments.
    • Research, write, and workshop Coalition public-facing policy statements and other advocacy materials.
    • In collaboration with both co-chairs, organize and execute Coalition participation in conferences and events; support co-chairs in managing media relations; represent the Coalition at public events.
    • In partnership with project manager, develop content and content strategies for social media, newsletter, and monthly Coalition Conversations.
    • Participate in weekly calls and other ad hoc communication with Core Team members to ensure effective coordination of workstreams and provide guidance as needed.

    Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, public or health policy, marketing or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 5 years’ project leadership experience required. Advanced degree in public policy or related field strongly preferred.
    • Broad and deep knowledge of aging services, Long Term Services & Supports (LTSS), nursing home models of care and regulations, health and aging policy.
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data into actionable recommendations to address the comprehensive challenges and opportunities facing nursing homes.
    • Experience in advocacy, communication, and/or policy education; demonstrated ability to work with communications agencies and other contractors.
    • Experience supporting and coordinating multiple diverse, senior executives and key stakeholders to drive progress and meet goals.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage diverse groups to support consensus on priority issues.

    Compensation & Benefits

    The salary range for this D.C. based position is $98,999-$104,210 based on a 37.5-hour work week for this exempt position. Salary offered may vary depending on relevant factors as determined by LeadingAge, which may include, but are not limited to, background and experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, certifications and licensures internal salary ranges, geographic location and other organizational needs. Salaries for candidates hired outside of the DMV will have salary adjusted using Economic Research Institute’s, Geographic Tool Assessor.

    For full-time positions, we offer:

    • May be required to move about frequently in the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, attend meetings, etc.
