    The Arab American Association of New York (AAANY) is a 501(c)(3) not for profit social service organization located in Brooklyn, New York. Our mission is to support and empower the Arab immigrant community by providing services that will help them to adjust to their new homeland and become active members of American society. Our aim is for families to achieve the ultimate goals of independence, productivity, and stability.

    AAANY is looking for a dynamic part-time Community Organizer to support and expand our community and political education efforts around our critical advocacy campaigns. Ideal applicants are committed to building strong relationships with Arab American and immigrant residents in Bay Ridge and Sunset Park, Brooklyn. The position calls for an organizer with experience mobilizing immigrant, BIPOC, and/or AAPI communities who can strengthen and expand our current base. The ideal candidate would be interested in finding creative ways to engage our community members in AAANY’s current city and state campaigns, including, but not limited to, New York for All, Our City Our Vote, Get Out the Vote efforts, along with various other campaigns led by Communities United for Police Reform and the Street Vendors Project.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Community outreach such as flyering, tabling, and canvassing to engage individuals in our immigrant rights, civic engagement, and advocacy campaigns;
    • Assisting the Advocacy and Civic Engagement “ACE” Manager in holding info sessions and campaign updates;
    • Maintaining event participation records and building contact lists;
    • Hosting social media livestreams;
    • Attending rallies and press conferences for priority campaigns and assisting ACE Manager and Communications Managers with photography and documenting events;
    • Assisting ACE Manager to mobilize community members, staff, and clients to attend rallies, press conferences, lobby days, and 3-5 advocacy trips to Albany and DC each year;
    • Conduct outreach and relationship building to grow AAANY’s youth base and increase participation in programs and campaigns
    • Support the Youth Organizer in planning and facilitating workshops, trainings and events centered on youth leadership, civic engagement and advocacy
    • Assist in coordinating youth led advocacy campaigns, actions and events with Youth Program Organizer

    . Maintaining and expanding direct communications with AAANY’s current base through digital advocacy and direct outreach.

    • Mobilizing community members, staff, and clients to submit testimonies and public comments, participating in phone- and text-banking efforts, and collecting petitions around important campaign priorities and issues (including MENA inclusion in the census and federal guidelines, universal healthcare, budget advocacy, immigrant rights, and more); and Other duties as needed.

    Required Qualifications

    • Knowledge of Arabic culture and identity in the United States
    • Passion for political education
    • Commitment to anti-oppression organizing & strong social justice framework.
    • Conversational Arabic

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience facilitating workshops or organizing community events
    • Experience in campaign canvassing, phonebanking, and text banking.

    Hours of work: 20-25 hours per week.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Excellent knowledge of English and preferably a good working knowledge of Arabic.
