REMOTE/ HYBRID WORK POLICY WAISN employees are currently located across the state of Washington and do not share a centralized office. Staff members are not required to work in person when handling day-to-day role responsibilities but will be expected to gather for events such as staff retreats and other all-staff reunions throughout the year. New staff members will be offered a $2,000 stipend to aid in relocation from out of state to Washington state if selected for their respective positions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Research, Development, and Submission (40% of total workload)
- Identify potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other funding sources aligned with WAISN’s mission and projects;
- Lead the grant reporting process, tracking reporting deadlines, producing first drafts of reports and proposals, and obtaining all required information to share our impact with funders;
- Collaborate with program managers, the Grantmaking and Fund Development Consultant, and other relevant stakeholders to gather information necessary for creating well-written and accurate grant proposals;
- Write persuasive, clear, and concise grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization’s goals, objectives, and outcomes;
- Tailor proposals to meet the specific requirements and guidelines of each funding opportunity;
- Build and maintain positive relationships with current and potential funders;
- Prepare budgets and financial projections to accompany grant proposals;
- Research to understand the priorities and interests of potential donors;
- Update and maintain the Grants tracker to maintain an updated funding record at all times.
Grant Compliance and Reporting (60 % of total workload)
- Ensure adherence to all grant requirements, including reporting, documentation, and any specific terms or conditions;
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely progress reports, financial reports, and other materials required by funders;
- Collaborate with the Grantmaking and Fund Development Consultant and Finance Director to develop accurate budgets for grant proposals, ensuring that all expenses are accounted for and aligned with the organization’s policies;
- Collaborate in the grant application process, ensuring that all required documents, forms, and supporting materials are submitted accurately and on time;
- Maintain organized records of all grant applications, correspondence, and related documentation;
- Work with Little Green Light, Stripe, and other software tools to keep track of event information (registration, online giving tied to events, reporting);
- Maintains a calendar/tracker of submissions, renewals, reports, and funding projected and received to keep department leads informed of all proposal opportunities and results;
- Manage and update grant tracker to include award periods, reporting deadlines, and contract information;
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements and Personal Traits Preferred
- Preferred Bachelor’s Degree or equal work experience in nonprofit management, journalism/communications, or business development
- Minimum of two (2) years of grant writing and fundraising experience with a demonstrated portfolio
- Minimum of two (2) years experience working with local, state, and federal funding agencies
- Minimum of one (1) year of financial and budget management experience
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive (Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Sheets)
- Experience with productivity tools a plus, including Little Green Light, Quickbooks, MailChimp, Piktochart, AirTable, and Canva
- Excellent writing and communication skills;
- Knowledge of the nonprofit sector and fundraising strategies; Proficiency in research and grant database utilization.
