    Description

    Planned Giving Coordinator

    Denver, CO; Los Angeles, CA

    The Public Interest Network is seeking a Coordinator for our Planned Giving Program. Through this program, we give the members of our environmental and public interest organizations the opportunity to make larger gifts and leave the legacy of a better world to future generations.

    Key Responsibilities

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Expanding our marketing and donor cultivation work to inspire our supporters to leave a lasting legacy;
    • Responding to inquiries from our members with appropriate information on bequests, stock donations, and other legacy gifts;
    • Organizing online and in-person events around the country to deepen the commitment of our long-term members;
    • Collaborating with staff across the network to integrate planned giving goals in all fundraising activities and facilitate stewardship of donors who have already made a planned gift commitment;
    • Working with our membership services, legal, and finance departments to ensure that all planned gifts are appropriately reviewed, processed, and acknowledged; and
    • Researching and vetting additional types of planned gifts beyond the ones we currently feature.

    The Planned Giving Coordinator position requires a two-year commitment, excellent judgment and discretion and the ability to oversee significant projects.

    Qualifications

    We are looking for skilled candidates who are inspired by our vision for a better world and approach to winning change that’s built to last, and embrace our network's core values. Additionally, qualified candidates will:

    • Have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ relevant experience. Experience in development with a public interest advocacy organization also is preferred. Advanced degrees, including a JD or masters in related fields, may count toward a candidate's professional experience. Legal experience and/or understanding of basic estate and tax planning is a plus;
    • Be detail-oriented, deadline-driven, highly organized, have strong work ethic, and have the ability to oversee significant projects;
    • Have excellent people skills and the ability to exhibit professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion in all communications regarding estate planning;
    • Have strong verbal and written communication skills;
    • Thrive working independently, but also be able to take direction and work as part of a team; and
    • Most importantly, be passionate about making a difference on the issues we work on. Fundraising is hard and often thankless work with results that we won’t see until far into the future, so you need to be motivated by our shared belief that a clear vision, commonsense solutions, a fact-driven case for action, and the power of bringing people together are the necessary ingredients to any successful effort to solve society’s problems.

    Compensation & Benefits

    The starting target annual compensation range for someone with 5-10 years of relevant professional experience is $37,500-$45,000. Candidates on the lower end of directly relevant experience should expect to be on the lower end of this range; candidates on the higher end of relevant experience are likely to be on the higher end of this range. The Public Interest Network offers an excellent benefits package. Our benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, paid time off, a commuter benefit program, a 401(k) plan with employer match, parental leave, long term disability insurance, and may include needs-based student loan assistance. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement

    Why work for The Public Interest Network? Here are ten reasons: https://publicinterestnetwork.org/why-work-with-us/

    About the Public Interest Network

    The Public Interest Network operates and supports more than a dozen organizations – including PIRG, Environment America and their state affiliates – committed to a shared vision of a better world and a strategic approach to change.

    Our work focuses on the problems that arise from America’s single-minded pursuit of endless economic growth: We’re still burning fossil fuels even though it’s changing the climate. We keep giving antibiotics to healthy livestock, even though it leads to “superbugs” that are antibiotic-resistant. We use plastic products for a few minutes only to throw them away so they pollute the oceans for centuries.

    And our approach is unique: We focus on the big picture, but are relentlessly pragmatic and prioritize making a difference in people’s lives over making a statement. We work with everybody to make change happen, political ideology aside, championing good ideas wherever they come from. And we are serious about the work – we set clear goals, benchmarks and systems to measure our progress, and hold ourselves accountable to making change now and building for the future.

    This unique approach gives our staff an opportunity to make a concrete difference for the environment and the public interest – just as hundreds of dedicated staff have done over our 50 year history. If you want to add to this change-making legacy; if you have the passion and the drive that it takes; if you're looking for a mission, not just a job – then let’s talk.
