    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Database Manager is an integral member of the Development Team at Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City. Reporting to the Vice President of Philanthropy, the Database Manager is responsible for the maintenance of Raiser’s Edge and all related technology. This role requires someone who can effectively bridge technical database management with fundraising operations, serving as a key translator between development needs and database capabilities. This includes upkeep of donor information and records, as well as production of reports for use by the Development team and senior management. By developing procedures, the Database Manager will ensure that best practices are followed for data integrity, effective donor financial record keeping, and analysis.

    The Database Manager will conduct research and build the processes to effectively support front-line fundraisers in their pursuit of donations. This person will also actively participate in planning related to segmentation and use of variable data in direct mail and email appeals.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the donor accuracy of Raiser’s Edge by managing the database for the organization, and for all related functions, including data entry, coding of gifts, reconciliation of records, database clean-up, and reporting. This includes regularly completing data queries, reports, exports, merges, and data imports.
    • Work with the Finance Department to review gifts for daily deposit reports and monthly reconciliations with the General Ledger.
    • Produce accurate and complete donor reports, including listings for Annual Report and quarterly Trustee Give / Get reports.
    • Collaborate with the Marketing and Development teams on direct mail and email solicitations by importing appeals, segmenting donor lists, exporting mailing lists, and reporting results.
    • Oversee the timely processing of gift acknowledgements and matching gifts.
    • Maintain a working relationship with the Information Technology Director for the maintenance of Raiser’s Edge.
    • Manage data being communicated between Raiser’s Edge, Luminate Online, and Classy.
    • Design database-related procedures and troubleshoot with Raiser’s Edge personnel when issues arise.
    • Manage processes for internal communication on donor data, including requests for high-priority leads.
    • Perform donor research on leads in order to generate prospect profiles for frontline fundraisers. Oversee the tracking and reporting on prospects.
    • Assist with special events (including some evening and occasional weekends) as necessary.
    • Perform other duties, as assigned.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • 1-3 years of combined experience in both development/fundraising AND database management, with demonstrated ability to bridge these two areas. Experience communicating technical database concepts to non-technical stakeholders in development and fundraising, desired.
    • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge or other Blackbaud product required, and proficiency with Classy desired.
    • Positive attitude and commitment to advancing BBBS of NYC’s mission.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent data analysis and organizational skills.
    • Ability to perform detailed work with high degree of accuracy.
    • Systems and process orientation, with an eye towards continual improvement.
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team
    • Ability to multitask and comfort working in fast-paced environment.
