    Description

    The National Center for Family Philanthropy (NCFP) welcomes applications for a senior manager on its advancement team. NCFP works in collaboration with visionary philanthropic families to unlock their potential to create meaningful and enduring change.

    A member of the advancement team, reporting to the senior director of advancement, the senior manager plans, manages, and executes membership and fundraising strategies for NCFP for a portfolio of members including family foundations and regional associations in an assigned geographic region. They maintain a sophisticated and nuanced understanding of members’ individual interests, passions, connections, and relationships with NCFP to advance successful engagement, cultivation, and stewardship strategies across their portfolio, leading to a superior experience. This team member will also be able to speak with knowledge and understanding about NCFP’s programs and services to members and those in the field. They will successfully complete annual fundraising goals and develop relationships with current and prospective donors, attract new members, retain existing members, and close sponsorships tied to events and programs.

    The successful candidate will work with advancement colleagues and peers throughout NCFP, tracking progress toward goals in Salesforce and other internal systems.

    Essential Responsibilities

    The senior manager, member services will report to the senior director of advancement and primarily will be responsible for:

      • Portfolio Manager and Membership Support (60%)
      • Actively manage a portfolio of network members including family foundations and regional associations in an assigned geographic region. Ensure these members receive timely communications, acknowledgment, and support.
      • Lead the member acquisition, renewal, and reacquisition process for assigned geography. Respond promptly to new member interest requests and seek opportunities to ask for increased funding from current members.
      • Orient new members to the organization; send and file welcome emails; schedule and record notes from discovery calls.
      • Track upcoming calls and meetings and proactively prepare senior leaders with information for calls with identified members and prospects.
      • Build relationships with members to understand their needs and interests, respond to questions regarding general support and reach out to ensure they are aware of upcoming programming.
      • Regional Events (15%)
      • Manage logistics and overall work plan for assigned regional events that focus on member stewardship and acquisition. This includes building possible invite lists through ensuring appropriate follow-up for each attendee.
      • As needed and in consultation with the senior director, engage local partners and/or members in planning and executing the events.
      • Sponsorship Management (15%)
    • Support the development and execution of overall sponsorship strategy for signature events and other programs
    • Approach prospective organizations in your portfolio about sponsorship opportunities in alignment with the sponsorship strategy
    • Ensure sponsors are made aware of all benefits and partner with sponsors to fulfill selected benefits
    • Administrative (10%) – Actively maintain data in Salesforce ensuring monthly reports on prospects, pledges, commitments, and payments are always up to date.

    The above list includes the primary responsibilities of this role and, while comprehensive, is not exhaustive. All NCFP team members attend bi-weekly staff meetings, contribute to culture efforts, and support the bi-annual forum and other events. These responsibilities are expected to evolve over time based on the needs of NCFP and the skills of the person in the role.

They enjoy building relationships and are motivated by reaching goals. They are not hesitant about reaching out to strangers by phone or e-mail, enjoy the rush of securing support, and can regroup quickly when told no to a fundraising ask. They see data input and management as an essential component of relationship management.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Five years or more of member and donor experience with at least two or more of being the person making the fundraising ask
    • Experience seeking funding and building relationships with private foundations
    • Experience closing and managing event and program sponsorships
    • Strong track record of building relationships that foster engagement
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to adapt tone and message to different audiences
    • Interest in family philanthropy; experience is a plus, but not a requirement
    • Strong attention to detail and an ability to develop and stick to organizational systems to establish priorities and meet deadlines
    • Desire to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and changing environment
    • Ability to manage through ambiguity while knowing when to ask for clarification
    • Creativity and the desire to pitch in all tasks, large and small, to support the team
    • Experience with database entry; Salesforce a plus, but not a requirement
