    The Texas Climate Jobs Project seeks a dynamic and passionate Senior Advisor for External Organizing who will lead efforts to develop organizing strategies to raise working conditions and lift the voices of working people and impacted communities in clean energy sectors across the state as part of our Clean Energy Workers Rising campaign.

Through innovative research and policy development; popular education; community engagement; advocacy; and strategic coalition building and partnerships, Texas Climate Jobs Project is engaging in collective action to protect the climate and create good local jobs.

    Texas Climate Jobs Project is part of Fair Shot Texas, a tax-exempt nonprofit organization that was founded by the Texas AFL-CIO and labor unions across the state to advance a working families policy agenda in Texas.

    The Job

    The Senior Advisor for External Organizing responsibilities will include:

    • Organizing and Outreach: Help develop and execute a comprehensive organizing vision to raise standards in strategic clean energy industries across the state. Develop relationships and maintain regular contact with a diverse range of leaders from across the state, including union leaders, rank and file union members, climate activists, community groups, and others.
    • Comprehensive Campaigning: Work with researchers, campaigners, organizers, communications coordinators, and other staff to support the execution of comprehensive campaigns to support our work.
    • Training and Development: Lead, train, develop, and supervise organizers and community leaders to expand the capacity of our campaigns and community organizing efforts.
    • Administration and Operations: Work with staff to support effective administrative and operations functions.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as needed.

    Primary Characteristics and Experience

    The Texas Climate Jobs Project Senior Advisor for External Organizing is a leadership position. The applicant should be a seasoned organizer with deep experience building bold, statewide programs at the intersection of community organizing, workers’ rights, and economic justice. With this experience, the ideal applicant will both be able to advise organizing staff on effectively scaling a large, statewide economic justice campaign while supporting program implementation that will include deep, ongoing relational organizing. The position will be based in either our Austin, Dallas or Houston office, with frequent travel to other areas of Texas.

    In addition, the Senior Advisor for External Organizing should have:

    • A minimum of five years of organizing experience in labor, workers’ rights, or similar setting, with seven to ten years of applicable experience being preferable;
    • Deep understanding of running a relational organizing campaign at scale, especially among diverse groups of people;
    • In-depth knowledge and experience working within the labor movement, preferably in Texas;
    • A deep commitment to building power alongside impacted workers and marginalized communities;
    • An ability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities;
    • Critical thinking and ability to think strategically about building and exercising power;
    • Excellent communication skills;
    • Ability to travel frequently to different areas of the state;
    • A demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice and a deep interest in local policy, politics, and government;
    • Flexibility and potential to excel in a fast-paced, quickly-evolving campaign movement that has a diverse and invested group of stakeholders.

    Salary: Minimum $71,070, with potential adjustments upward depending on experience. Excellent benefits including healthcare, retirement, and paid leave. This is a grant-funded position expected to end November 30, 2025; with the possibility of continuation contingent on additional grant funding for this position at that time. This position is a bargaining unit position with Teamsters Local 988.
