    Position Summary

This position is an exciting opportunity to join the team at Liberation Ventures and drive LV’s work to gather, analyze, and incorporate data and insights to inform LV’s strategy and exponentially increase our impact over the next decade. This person will work closely with LV team members across the organization, and especially the VP of Narrative Change, VP of Movement Building, Director of State and Local Initiatives, and the CEO.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Grantmaking Strategy & Impact Analysis (40%): In 2024, Liberation Ventures published a co-created, 10-year Reparations Grantmaking Blueprint which outlines the strategy for our grantmaking over the next decade. This person will track impact against the nine KPIs outlined in the Blueprint (working in partnership with the Director of State and Local Initiatives and the Narrative Change team), manage strategy refresh processes every 2-3 years, advise annual grantmaking to ensure adherence to the Blueprint, and work with the VP of Movement Building and CEO to understand and communicate grantmaking impact on a regular basis. Key responsibilities include:
      • Working cross functionally across the organization to ensure LV is tracking impact across all KPIs; in some cases, design and implement survey or other data collection methods to gather information
      • Updating the models, assumptions, and example organizations in the Blueprint ahead of grantmaking processes that will leverage the Blueprint
      • Managing the Blueprint creation/refinement process, including through designing/revising content and facilitating calls with the Steering Committee
      • Leading the rollout of each new iteration of the Blueprint, including presenting at conferences and working with the VP of Narrative Change on comms strategy
      • Developing criteria and processes to align grantmaking decisions to the Blueprint
      • Working with the CEO to identify opportunities to sharpen the language and format of the Blueprint for use with funders
    • Polling & Research (40%): This person will manage LV’s research infrastructure, including conducting a public opinion poll in house, managing the Reparations Research Consortium, and maintaining tools and resources that enable collaboration on research between academics, scholars, and practitioners. Key responsibilities include:
      • Revising, implementing, analyzing, and communicating LV’s (bi)annual nationally-representative reparations poll
      • Partnering with local and state advocacy organizations to create, launch, and analyze localized reparations polling data
      • Managing LV’s Reparations Research Consortium, including:
        • Organizing quarterly meetings in partnership with Urban Institute and Brookings Institution
        • Maintaining and creating infrastructure (e.g., research database, etc.) to support collaboration between and across researchers and movement organizations
        • Building relationships with researchers, pollsters, and movement partners with an interest in research
        • Tracking critical movement-wide research questions and (if appropriate) establishing partnerships to investigate them
        • Supporting Research Consortium members to execute research projects
    • Special Projects Across the Organization (20%): This person will support other data and/or impact projects across the organization when needs arise. Key responsibilities include:
      • Supporting the VP of Narrative Change to evaluate the impact of narrative change programming, conduct qualitative and/or quantitative audience research, evaluate social media/communications analytics, etc.
      • Supporting the CEO to communicate the impact of LV’s work through written materials (e.g., powerpoint decks, speechwriting, grant reports)
      • Supporting the operations team to conduct necessary data gathering and analysis
      • Building and reviewing surveys for other LV functions
      • Supporting other capacity-building projects

      • Deep belief in Liberation Ventures’ mission
      • Demonstrated commitment to LV’s beliefs in practice.
      • Strong understanding of LV’s field of work — racial, economic, and gender justice and their intersections, and the systems and structures that cause ongoing harm in these areas.

      • Experience analyzing and visualizing data, ideally in R
      • Experience using Github to store, share, and collaborate on code
      • Experience designing and deploying surveys or other forms of quantitative impact evaluation, ideally in Qualtrics

    • Clear and structured thinker and communicator: comfort synthesizing data into clear insights to communicate internally and externally
      • Exceptional analytical, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

    • Exceptional relationship builder: can build trust quickly with all different types of people, across lines of difference, especially race
      • Able to see, name, and navigate power and privilege dynamics in a group and contribute to a working environment where all people are equally valued, feel cared for, and are accountable to each other.
      • Track record of building strong partnerships with team members at all levels of an organization; relational, collaborative approach to management and leadership.
