Prescott College is seeking applicants for a faculty member to teach in our Master of Arts in Organizing and Community Justice and our Critical Social Justice and Solidarity program. We are seeking a colleague who can bring practical experience and academic context to our work by teaching undergraduate and graduate students in both online and in person classes.
Position Description
We are looking for a full-time faculty member who has both academic expertise in a scholarly area that provides context for social justice, and also practical experience with social movement work.
The position may be filled by a candidate with a background in such fields as political studies, geography, history, ethnic studies, Indigenous studies, Labor Studies, Urban Studies, and the successful candidate will be drawn to transdisciplinary intersections of scholarship undertaken for the ultimate purpose of social change. Candidates are especially welcome to apply with background in globalization and colonization; critical disability studies; social justice education; community organizing skills; research as a tool for social change and decolonial methodologies; racial justice; queer studies; and similar areas.
Full Faculty members teach 6 classes every academic year, taught in 4, 8, or 16 week sessions, and our semesters operate in the Fall, Spring, and Summer.
Faculty members are also expected to participate in non-teaching work, including attendance at Faculty Assembly and department meetings; appropriate committee assignments; advising; supporting independent studies, senior projects, and graduate capstones; and participation in the college-wide learning community and governance.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will join our on-campus faculty in Prescott, Arizona, and have access to teach at our two international campuses in Kino Bay, Mexico, and Southern Kenya.
As part of their application, applicants should include a discussion of their organizing experience and the role of the academy in supporting their work as an organizer. References should include at least one who can speak to the candidate’s prior movement work.
