    Time: Part Time (Approximately 12-15 hours/week); must be available during the school day on Tuesday and Thursdays to lead class in-person (9:25-10:55am and 12:25-1:55pm).

    Location: Houston, TX

    The Community Impact Project (CIP) is a classroom-based program that prepares high school students to be environmental changemakers through hands-on experience implementing a service project in their community. Through the program, they develop skills in personal leadership, ethical service, and cultural competency. The program is rooted in Design Thinking as a methodology for driving change. This initiative aims to mobilize an enthusiastic network of changemakers, empowering students to actively participate in finding solutions within their communities.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The mentor position will support with workshops on topics of leadership, service and project design two times weekly. During these sessions the mentor will facilitate activities and presentations, and lead small group mentorship meetings with participants. Participant’s service projects will be focused on local community needs through an environmental lens. In addition to attending biweekly meetings, the mentor will attend weekly planning sessions, a virtual orientation to the program, and will monitor participant’s progress on activities.

    The Community Impact Project is designed to activate this energetic network of change makers by giving them the space to build new communities both globally and locally while they learn what it means to be a leader.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide support to participants to design and implement a community service project.
    • Meet with participants in a small group setting each week.
    • Respond to student questions/inquiries about elements of the program.
    • Understands, upholds and enforces the AMIGOS Standards of Conduct and other policies and procedures

    Training

    • Completes program orientation

    Program Delivery

    • Facilitates assigned activities during the program
    • May support the design of program activities
    • Actively plans and engages students in small group mentor meetings
    • Provides ongoing programmatic feedback to the Program Coordinator in order to make program adjustments as needed

    Management

    • Follows expectations for positive and professional working relationships
    • Coordinates, supervises, and provides ongoing support to participants including but not limited to monitoring performance, participation, and completion of program curriculum
    • Completes additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience running programs with young people; mentoring young people.
    • Experience working in an LMS (such as Canvas)
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Comfortable working independently
    • Professionally fluent in English —both written and verbal
    • Skilled in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Zoom
    • Positive attitude and solution-driven approach
    • Experience working in cross-cultural environments

    • Reports to CIP program coordinator
