    Description

    Nevada Environmental Justice Coalition (NEJC) The Nevada Environmental Justice Coalition is working to prioritize justice in the fight to protect our state’s natural resources through a social and racial equity lens, to ensure a just transition away from extractive industries, and liberate frontline communities from environmental hardships.

    Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), a 501(c)(3) organization, holds a vision for Nevada that begins with building a strong grassroots foundation in Las Vegas and it ends with elevating the power of working-class immigrant communities in every community around the state. We do this by informing, empowering, and mobilizing our community to take action on important issues that directly affect their families and loved ones.

    Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues that are most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most.

    Make the Road States (MRS), a 501(c)(3) organization is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color.

    Current Opening:

    The Climate Equity Policy Fellow will play a crucial role in advancing equitable climate and clean energy policy by providing essential policy support and research. This position is hosted by Make the Road Nevada (MRNV) and reports to the Coalition Coordinator of the Nevada Environmental Justice Coalition (NEJC). In this fellowship, the fellow will receive comprehensive training, mentoring, and coaching to develop expertise in environmental justice and equitable climate policy.

    We seek a strategic, community-oriented advocate who is passionate about social and environmental justice. Ideal candidates understand how to work collaboratively, build authentic partnerships, and ground their policy work in community-based organizing principles. This fellowship is set to end in June of 2026 with the possibility of an extension that is dependent upon grant funding availability

    Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

    Policy Support

    • Collaborate with NEJC member groups to create and advocate for policy solutions in local, state, and federal climate justice initiatives
    • Contribute to NEJC’s strategic environmental justice plan in Nevada
    • Co-manage the NEJC Policy Committee, facilitating meetings and agenda setting with the Committee lead
    • Conduct policy research and analysis for advocacy efforts, including the evaluation of climate justice and energy equity policies
    • Draft policy memos, comments, testimony, and public communications pieces
    • Coordinate listening sessions with NEJC member groups and translate community insights into actionable policy recommendations

    Community Outreach & Education

    • Participate in community outreach, tabling at events, and digital communications
    • Engage with community members, especially those from BIPOC and frontline communities, on climate and clean energy benefits
    • Represent NEJC at public events and advocacy meetings with community, government, and business leaders
    • Develop and share accessible talking points on NEJC policy priorities

    Additional Duties

    • Assist with developing toolkits, presentations, and other advocacy materials
    • Support the drafting of legislation based on NEJC’s grassroots priorities
    • Develop and manage logistics for NEJC events with the MRNV operations team
    • Leadership & Professional Development
    • Attend all cohort meetings, site visits, and leadership development workshops
    • Participate in training sessions for the Climate Equity Policy Fellowship
    • Provide feedback on fellowship programming through quarterly meetings with the Equity Fund

    Requirements:

    • Eligible to work in the U.S.
    • Required to be fully vaccinated with an FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior first day of employment.
    • Strong commitment to racial, social, and environmental justice
    • 2-3 years of experience in issue-based organizing or coalition leadership
    • Lived experience in frontline communities, including BIPOC and low-income communities
    • Self-starter with proven ability to manage relationships and build consensus
    • Availability for occasional evenings and weekends
    • Proficiency in Slack, G Suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Strong communication, team-building, and decision-making skills

    • Deep commitment to grassroots power-building and policy development

    Salary and Benefits:

    MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $50,591 to $61,809.
