    As OMSI’s Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities, you will have an unparalleled opportunity for impact, inspiring curiosity in 1.2 million participants annually while leading our vision for an education transformation at the intersection of science, technology, and design. You will be the chief strategist, leader, and advisor for OMSI’s current, award-winning museum and learning facilities, along with all future property development and strategic expansion initiatives, including the one-of-a-kind OMSI District now underway.

    The OMSI District

    Located in the heart of Portland on the Willamette River, OMSI is well-suited to anchor the further development of a thriving urban community. The OMSI District – a collaboration of local, Tribal and regional government entities, nonprofits and businesses – will be a one-of-a-kind vibrant, inclusive neighborhood and community destination with innovation, culture, arts. and science learning at its heart. Covering 10 city blocks, the OMSI District will include 3M square feet of new transit-oriented development and 1,200 units of new housing, including affordable units. It will enable OMSI to further expand science programming in the city, state, and region and is projected to generate 11,000+ new jobs and $1.2 billion in total economic output.     Additional OMSI Strategic Expansion Opportunities

    Through the development and implementation of initiatives supporting OMSI’s strategic growth and improved learner outcomes in Portland and around the state, including the OMSI District, OMSI seeks, evaluates, and implements opportunities and partnerships to expand its programming in OMSI-owned and third-party owned facilities based on community feedback. In addition, a key component of OMSI’s 20-year vision is focused on advancing practices and policies to reduce harmful emissions and educate and support communities to succeed in sustainability/climate action planning. We as an organization endeavor to achieve net zero carbon emissions.

    About The Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities Position

    The VP of Real Estate and Facilities will serve as the primary strategist, leader, and advisor for OMSI across all facilities management, property development, and strategic expansion opportunities, guiding the organization and representing OMSI across a variety of internal and external community/ partner relationships statewide.

    • Community, Tribal, and cultural organizations

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Executive Leadership: Participating as a committed, valued, and collegial leader of OMSI’s Leadership team in guiding organizational decision-making and initiatives, while promoting collaboration and communication across teams
    • Strategic and Long Range Planning: Developing strategy and advising/collaborating with CEO and Board of Trustees relating to facilities, property development, and strategic expansion
    • Inspiring Team Leadership: Developing and supporting Real Estate and Facilities team members, while driving successful outcomes and innovative solutions in a way that reflects OMSI’s values of education, collaboration, belonging, and stewardship
    • Partnership and Collaboration: Representing OMSI and nurturing key relationships with governmental agencies, partners, neighbors and diverse community organizations

    Essential Experience and Competencies

    The successful candidate will have the following:

    • Executive-level and team leadership experience including facilities management
    • Strategic planning experience with deep fiscal expertise, including long-range real estate development and facilities planning
    • Experience managing multi-year, mixed-use development projects including horizontal and vertical development
    • Deep experience in pre-development, including entitlements
    • The ability to synthesize ideas and develop strategy, as well as the flexibility to project manage details, retaining and delegating responsibilities as appropriate
    • Inspiring leadership, with the ability to develop others and create inclusive teams
    • Excellent presentation and verbal/ written communication skills across a variety of audiences, including executives, staff, communities, and cultural and Tribal organizations
    • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise implementing diversity, equity & inclusion strategies, as an organizational leader and as a property development industry expert

    Compensation Package

    • Annual compensation is $156,172, in line with OMSI's abiding commitment to fair and equitable compensation and hiring practices
