    ROLE:

    The Legislative Campaign Coordinator works under the guidance of the Political Director and Chief of Staff to mobilize Local 73 members to fight for and win pro-worker legislation.

    DUTIES:

    • Trains, prepares, and organizes Local 73 members to effectively lobby their elected officials.
    • Maintains a comprehensive legislative scorecard of elected officials who support and oppose our initiatives.
    • Tracks priority legislation in Springfield.
    • Builds functional relationships with elected officials and their staff.
    • Partners with Field Organizers and Directors to identify member spokespersons to lobby for pro-worker legislation
    • Makes recommendations to the Local 73 Political Endorsement Committee.
    • Creates and presents political education curriculum for members in conjunction with the Local’s Director of Member Education.
    • Recruits and trains Local 73 members to take on significant roles in key political races and run for public office.
    • Works in coalition with allied labor and community organizations on key campaigns.
    • Produces high quality written plans and presentations.
    • Assists communications department in developing clear and effective, campaign materials.
    • Coordinates the work of consultants, contractors and lobbyists as required.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A college education or equivalent life experience
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • A proven strategic thinker who is committed to helping workers win.
    • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint etc.)
    • Ability and willingness to work long and irregular hours, including weekends.
    • Personal commitment to the mission and goals of SEIU Local 73.
    • Bi-lingual English/ Spanish a plus but not required.
    • Experience working on political and/ or union organizing campaigns.
    • Experience with voter tracking systems such as VAN, Nation Builder etc.
    • Can work independently and as part of a team.
    • Possess an understanding of the myriad challenges working people face today.
    • Committed to social, racial, and economic justice.
    • Physically able to walk and stand for extended periods of time for canvassing etc.
    • A basic knowledge of the legislative process.
    • A solid understanding of City of Chicago, Cook County, and Illinois State politics.
