    Position Description

    This temporary, part-time Farm to Preschool Nutrition Educator position supports our Youth & Families programming at Tilth Alliance, focusing on pre-Kindergarten farm-to-table nutrition & food systems education. Responsibilities include leading Farm to Preschool cooking & nutrition classes and family events at preschools and childcare centers. The Farm to Preschool program is funded by the City of Seattle Human Services Department.

    Job Responsibilities Required Skills

    • Lead Farm to Preschool nutrition education activities such as mobile cooking classes, family events, and “pop-up” produce markets for preschool-age participants, site staff, and families
    • Collaborate with Youth and Families Coordinator’s Farm to Preschool garden & food systems education programming, assisting when necessary
    • Use existing Farm to Preschool curriculum and recipes to lead classes, adapting as needed to site specifications
    • Provide farm to table education that is culturally relevant and increases access to local produce at snacks and meals
    • Coordinate with Farm to Preschool partners Solid Ground, Farmstand Local Food, Tilth Alliance Market Programs, and others
    • Keep records, document programming, and provide content for monthly reporting
    • Communicate with site staff, and assist with scheduling programming as needed
    • Attend internal and external bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly Farm to Preschool meetings with Tilth Alliance and partner organizations

    Desired Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, education, or related field OR 2 years of a combination of education and related experience necessary to fulfill the minimum job requirements
    • Ability to lead cooking activities for young children
    • Experience leading programming for preschoolers, 3–5 year-olds
    • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to problem solve and work in dynamic settings
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Have reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license and be able to transport self and teaching materials to locations throughout Seattle
    • Intermediate computer skills that include Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
    • Washington State Food & Beverage Worker’s permit must be obtained prior to starting job
    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
    • Ability to creatively respond to site needs and to develop unique approaches for promoting healthy, local food
    • Self-directed and able to work independently as well as with a team
    • Demonstrated enthusiasm for and/or experience relating to and working with a wide variety of cultures
    • Registered Dietitian certificate a plus, but not required

    Benefits

    This is a temporary, part-time (20 hours/week) non-exempt position, for a duration of 12 weeks. There is a possibility that the position could extend an additional 4-6 weeks, but that has yet to be determined. This position is eligible for sick time, accrued at 3.69 hours per 80 hours work.

    Compensation is $24.00 per hour

    This is a temporary position to support the work of a staff member who will be on parental leave in early 2025, and therefore does not currently have a specific start/end date. Further details will be discussed with potential candidates during the interview process.
