    Come join The Crucible as our newest Studio Operations Technician for the opportunity to use your mechanical, facilities maintenance and safety skills in service to a fantastic arts education nonprofit located in West Oakland!

    The Studio Operations Technician works as a part of a team to build, organize, clean, maintain, and supervise the studios and facilities for classes, events and special projects. Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Studio Operations Technician ensures that faculty, staff and students comply with safety regulations and protocols, responds to emergency situations as needed to maintain safe, efficient operations of the classes and the facilities, and maintains Crucible tools and assets.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    • A minimum of one (1) year of previous work experience and knowledge and familiarity with materials used to perform various building, mechanical, and maintenance repair tasks.
    • Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
    • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
    • Experience with the use and care of hand and power equipment necessary to perform various building and maintenance repairs.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions from supervisors.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service orientation
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage special projects.
    • Intermediate proficiency with the Google Suite including Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs and Sheets
    • Learning orientation and willingness to learn new skills in a variety of industrial arts
    • Willing to complete Cal-OSHA 30, Forklift Certification, Adult/Child CPR & First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen training within thirty (30) days of hire
    • Proven track record of punctuality and attendance
    • Pleasant, considerate, and respectful demeanor to children and adults at all times
    • Valid California driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
    • Ability to complete California DOJ LiveScan for youth-serving organizations.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior studio operations experience.
    • Previous experience in a nonprofit, education or industrial arts organization.
    • Electrical, woodshop and fabrication skills.
    • Current forklift certification.
    • Current Adult & Child CPR and First Aid certification.
    • Completed Cal-OSHA 30 General Industry training.

    Physical Requirements

    This position is primarily located in an indoor studio/warehouse environment. Able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:

    • Stand, sit, kneel, walk, bend, push/pull, lift and perform repetitive motions for the duration of an eight (8) hour shift
    • Traverse safely throughout the entirety of the 56,000 square foot facility including climb flights of stairs.
    • Safely lift and transport items of up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to operate motorized cleaning equipment.
    • Ability to don/doff and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to face shields, respirators, gloves, eye & ear protection.
    • Ability to work in small, cramped areas.
    • Ability to reach high work areas with ladders and/or scaffolding and work at heights greater than ten (10) feet.
    • Ability to work with and mix chemicals, paints, cleaning agents or similar solutions using accepted protective equipment
    • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
    • See, hear and respond quickly to sounds and emergent situations
    • Communicate in clear, loud voice
    • Work in outdoor, seasonal weather conditions for 33% of shift
    • The ability to work on weekends and holidays as needed with advanced notice
    • Complete COVID-19 primary vaccination series and most recent vaccination booster available.

    This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in Oakland, CA. Our work environment is casual, upbeat, professional, and fun. This 40-hour per week position has a variable schedule 7 days per week, 8:30 am – 10:00 pm. The starting pay for this position is $25.75 per hour. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in benefits the first of the month following 30 days of service. Benefits include:

    • Medical, dental and vision coverage at 50% for employees
    • Access to employee assistance program (EAP)
    • Generous leaves of absence! Accrue up to 10 days of paid vacation in your first year AND separate paid sick leave based upon your hours of service. The Crucible currently celebrates 11 paid holidays!
