About Greenwich House
Founded in 1902 as a settlement house to help New York’s increasing immigrant population adjust to life in a new country, Greenwich House today offers a variety of programs and approaches that continue to provide thousands of New Yorkers with health and wellness support, education, personal enrichment, skills building and cultural experiences.
Position Summary
Healing HeArts is a joint project between Greenwich House Music School (GHMS) and The Center for Resiliency and Wellness (CRW). This program builds on evidence that drama therapy can help children who have experienced trauma express themselves creatively and increase their well-being, resiliency, and mental health.
Serving young people ages 7-12, this program matches group therapy with drama therapy over the course of eight weekly sessions. Using a curriculum designed by CRW staff and the drama therapist, participants will meet for four weeks of group therapy followed by four weeks of drama therapy. The drama therapy sessions will build on the themes and psycho-emotional concepts explored in the first four group sessions. The eighth and final session will include a celebration/sharing of the creative work that comes out of these sessions.
A unique aspect of this program is the caregiver’s creative program running concurrently. This program element is designed to offer a space for caregivers to explore different creative activities and engage in community building with other parents/caregivers. This program is led by applied theatre practitioner and program coordinator.
Until this year it has been a summer program. Greenwich House is excited to be offering this program for the first time during the school year. We aim to run this program up to four times during the school year.
We are seeking a drama therapist (LCAT) who is excited to work with a CRW therapist as a team to lead the creative therapy portion of this program.
