Kaufman Music Center continuously cultivates and nurtures new generations of artists through Special Music School, New York’s only K-12 public school prioritizing an intensive, immersive, and musically-focused education without financial barriers, as well as Lucy Moses School, Manhattan’s largest community performing arts school for students of all ages.

    Kaufman Music Center is seeking an Institutional Giving Associate to join its Development Department. This position will report to the Associate Director of Development and will work in close collaboration with other members of the Development team and Kaufman Music Center staff to raise funds that support the Center’s mission and institutional fundraising goals.

    The Institutional Giving Associate will support and grow a robust portfolio of foundation, corporate, and government funders. They will prepare and submit grant proposals and reports; lead cultivation and stewardship efforts; maintain thorough and accurate records of funder correspondence; and provide administrative support for a high-performing development team.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Research & Writing

    • Oversee the creation, preparation, and submission of proposals, acknowledgments, and reports for foundations, corporations, and government agencies, alongside the Associate Director of Development
    • Support institutional funder cultivation and stewardship, including by drafting quarterly updates for funders and participating in select donor events
    • Research potential foundation, corporate, and government funders
    • Complete additional writing and editorial projects (such as the Center’s annual Impact Report) as needed throughout the year

    Administrative

    • Work closely with the Associate Director to track and evaluate short-term and long-term goals for the Center’s institutional fundraising efforts
    • Maintain institution-wide data collection and grant tracking systems, including outreach and communications, and gift entry, via the Center’s CRM, Tessitura
    • Provide occasional on-site event and stewardship support as needed
    • Participate in other administrative duties as assigned

    Requirements:

    • Excellent writing and communication skills
    • Ability to quickly synthesize a variety of materials into effective and compelling prose
    • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and organizational skills
    • Positivity, flexibility, and resourcefulness in a deadline-driven environment
    • Proficiency with Microsoft applications and experience with data management (Tessitura experience preferred)
    • Grant writing experience and experience working in a non-profit environment preferred
    • Enthusiasm for Kaufman Music Center’s mission and an eagerness to connect supporters with its work
