    About TAC: Treatment Advocacy Center (TAC) is a national nonprofit organization based in Alexandria, Virginia. Our mission is to eliminate barriers to the timely and effective treatment of severe mental illnesses, especially those involving psychosis.

    Job Summary:

    Conduct the organization’s day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping function. Perform all aspects of accounting/finance and prepare materials for the annual audit process while working closely with the external audit team. Work collaboratively with department heads and leadership to track and manage budgets, and to assist with annual budget preparation.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Manage an accounting filing system and maintain financial record-keeping including accounting functions: receivables, payables, cash receipts, and cash disbursements
    • Complete process documentation and participate in continuous process and procedure improvement including maintaining TAC’s fiscal policies and other internal guidelines
    • Ensure accurate recording of transactions in the general ledger including the monthly payroll reconciliation and journal entries (monthly, quarterly and yearly, adjustments as needed)
    • Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports
    • Produce accrual-based accurate and timely monthly financial statements including balance sheets, profit/loss statements, and transaction reports
    • Collaborate with other staff as needed to review donations and grants received; and record applying non-profit accounting guidelines as needed
    • Prepare reports and information for the Board of Directors and relevant board committees as needed to ensure informed oversight
    • Manage the 990 preparations, 1099’s and filing process
    • Prepare accounting records, documentation, and schedules and for annual audit including fixed asset and associated depreciation schedules
    • Stay abreast of up-to-date accounting changes

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Demonstrated ability to read, understand, identify, and address issues in financial statements
    • Expertise with accounting software/online platforms, with flexibility to acquire expertise in multiple platforms, if needed
    • Strong proficiency in MS Office specifically using Excel for data analysis, tracking, and reporting
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving and communication skills; written and verbal.
    • Motivated self-starter, and ability to work autonomously at a high level of professionalism, customer service, and scrupulous attention to detail even during high pressure periods
    • Ability to work on special projects, as needed

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
    • Experience with Sage Intact and QuickBooks, preferred
    • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in progressive accounting and financial reporting
    • Experience in nonprofit and/or fund accounting
    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for nonprofit organizations and general accounting procedures and policies
    • Familiar with financial audits including communicating and providing data to auditor

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a company provided computer
    • Ability to travel 1-2 times a year
