    POSITION: Senior Accountant

    DEPARTMENT: Fiscal

    REPORTS TO: Assistant Controller/Controller

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Senior Accountant is responsible for analyzing financial data, communicating problems, and making recommendations to the Assistant Controller/Controller. This individual will be responsible for the accounting and reporting of various federal, state, local, private foundations, and corporate sponsored social service programs.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work closely with program leaders to develop budgets and budget modifications;
    • Prepare journal and closing entries as required;
    • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual reports to program leaders, including budget comparisons;
    • Provide schedules as requested for annual audit;
    • Provide information to program partners with regards to grant proposals (i.e. copies of certificates of liability, letters of incorporation, BCO certificates, etc.);
    • Prepare monthly invoices to funders;
    • Prepare and review Aged Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable reports by funder and program monthly;
    • Follow-up with funders regarding outstanding invoices as requested;
    • Conduct new program partner fiscal orientation;
    • Perform special projects/duties as assigned by the Assistant Controller/Controller;
    • Assist with preparation of the UAC audits and related schedules;
    • Management of UAC General Funds Department Accounts and Related assets;
    • Work closely with leadership to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Fiscal team;
    • Responsible for supporting and achieving Department Annual and Quarterly Goals;
    • Other miscellaneous projects or tasks as may arise from time to time.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local accounting, compliance and reporting requirements as they relate to nonprofit organizations (familiarity with City of Philadelphia regulations a plus);
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel);
    • Detailed-oriented and organized with excellent analytical ability;
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills to effectively communicate with employees, business leaders, program managers and directors;
    • Must maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity, and confidence;
    • Must have the ability to meet established accounting and reporting deadlines;
    • Must have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

    • BS/BA degree in Accounting, additional education/certification is a plus;
    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. NetSuite)
    • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
    • Experience working in a nonprofit organization or with nonprofit clients
