Reporter/Content Strategist for Animal Advocacy Organization

POSITION SUMMARY

Lady Freethinker seeks a reporter and digital content strategist for news articles and advocacy-driven content including petitions and newsletters. The successful applicant will be a detail-oriented writer who can synthesize complex issues into clear, compelling, and accurate public-facing materials. They will use data to analyze results and grow LFT’s audience, increase engagement, and advance animal protection campaigns and awareness. Ideal candidates will have deep knowledge of today’s issues facing animals as well as the nuances in communicating them to an animal-loving audience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Writing and editing compelling, accurate articles and content with emotional appeal
• Working with existing editorial staff to elevate quality and impact
• Analyzing engagement and other analytics to help shape future strategy
• Creating eye-catching headlines
• Choosing emotion-eliciting images that will compel readers to share and take action
• Ensuring top quality content that is 100% accurate and in line with brand guidelines and style
• Maintaining constant awareness of animal-related events as they happen and responding with pitches for content ideas
• PR outreach as needed to help LFT’s work achieve mainstream media coverage

QUALIFICATIONS

• A proven track record of creating successful online content
• Familiarity with what makes articles compelling to an online audience
• An eye for images that make people click
• The ability to produce accurate, concise, and interesting copy
• The ability to spot grammatical, factual, and style errors and provide feedback to help writers improve their work
• Knowledge of AP style
• Thorough understanding of the ethics and ideals of the animal protection movement
• The ability to take direction well, receive constructive feedback, and work independently as needed

SALARY & HOURS

$40/hour

Independent contractor position

Approximately 15-20 hours/week between the hours of 8 AM & 5 PM PST, M-F.
