    Minds Matter DC

    Minds Matter DC is an affiliate of Minds Matter, a national nonprofit organization that connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. Since 2015, every Minds Matter DC student has been admitted to a four-year college. Our success is rooted in holistic programming and a unique model that puts dedicated volunteers at the forefront of our work with students.

    What We’re Looking For

    Summary of Position

    As a fully volunteer-led chapter of Minds Matter, we are excited to invest in our first full-time staff member. The Executive Director will provide strategic vision for the Chapter, develop community

    relationships with diverse stakeholders, and guide chapter operations. The Executive Director is responsible for managing and supporting volunteers, and will work closely with our volunteer-led leadership team in Washington DC, our Board of Directors, and Minds Matter National.

    What You Will Be Responsible For

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Leadership and People Management

    • Act as the internal and external face of Mind Matter DC to all stakeholders, including our Board of Directors, volunteers, school partners, students and their families, donors, and other nonprofit/educational organizations
    • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop a strategic direction for the overall organization and execute against that plan
    • Identify, develop, and retain new and dynamic community partnerships, for the purposes of expanding the volunteer base and opportunities for students
    • Cultivate a broad professional network that can be leveraged to support student success

    Programming and Recruitment

    • Collaborate with volunteer leaders, Minds Matter National, and other stakeholders to assist with the ongoing development, implementation, and assessment of creative and effective programming that advances Minds Matter’s long-term goals and vision
    • Enhance existing programming and engage with National to implement curriculum changes
    • Recruit students and build relationships with high schools that create an effective student recruiting pipeline
    • Work with current volunteers to recruit additional volunteers and volunteer leaders

    Fundraising and Resource Development

    • Represent Minds Matter DC effectively with donors, partners and other stakeholders
    • Identify and execute upon local partnerships that may support Minds Matter DC students
    • Steward and engage donors in conjunction with the Minds Matter DC Board and volunteer leadership

    Nonprofit Management and Operations

    • Implement and evaluate organizational processes to streamline operations
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of Minds Matter DC, including Saturday weekly sessions, financial and legal requirements, and vendor relationships
    • Manage the budgeting and planning process
    • Develop staffing plans for growth and stability, including the resources needed to sustain additional staff and other resources

    About You

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including experience in nonprofit management or program implementation
    • Excellent organizational skills and capacity to prioritize and manage time well, with strong attention to detail
    • Ability to work as a self-starter without oversight, and as a team player who productively engages with others within and outside the organization
    • Facility with building relationships with multiple stakeholder groups and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds
    • Based in or around Washington, DC or willing to relocate

    Preferred Skills and Experiences:

    • Knowledge of the nonprofit, philanthropic and educational ecosystem of DC, including fundraising strategies
    • Experience at a high-growth or small nonprofit organization (education, college access, and youth development preferred), with exposure to or experience with programming, operations, and management
    • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
    • Capacity for managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations

    Benefits

    • Salary commensurate with experience: $80,000-$110,000

    • Note on work schedule: availability to work on site most Saturdays per month (September through May) during weekly sessions with students and volunteers. Outside of session times (10:00am to 2:00pm on Saturdays during the school year in Downtown Washington DC), role will have a fully flexible schedule to work when and where is most convenient for you (expected 40 hrs/week), however, expect to attend frequent in-person meetings in the DC metro area
