    Break A Difference’s (BAD) mission is to strategically engage individuals and institutions through service to make positive impacts in communities in those who serve. As a nonprofit, we accomplish this by engaging corporations in large-scale service projects, preparing skilled leaders to serve on nonprofit boards, expanding the volunteer service capacity for nonprofits, and partnering with organizations to engage college students in week-long immersive service trips, otherwise known as Alternative Breaks. We are proud to announce our new initiative, From: Baltimore, which aims to engage youth as leaders in the social impact sector through different service tracks. As a Baltimore-based nonprofit, we’re excited to make positive impacts in Baltimore and beyond.

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The From: Baltimore AmeriCorps program manager is responsible for ensuring the successful organization, implementation, supervision and compliance of AmeriCorps activities, services, staff and programs in accordance with federal rules and regulations within the GOSV program compliance framework. The program manager will provide oversight over the From: Baltimore Outreach initiatives, partnership development, and volunteer recruitment efforts to support community development programs, facilitate youth engagement activities, including service trips and professional development training, to empower young adults and promote social impact. The program manager will also provide oversight for the planning and execution of events, workshops, and initiatives aimed at fostering community involvement and addressing local needs, maintain records, and track program metrics. The From: Baltimore will report to the Partnerships Director with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    demonstrate Organization and program core competencies

    • Supervise program staff and AmeriCorps members and other BAD personnel and contractors.
    • Represent BAD, From: Baltimore, and the AmeriCorps program in the community and with other partners and stakeholders.
    • Promote and maintain agency culture, standards, and systems.

    Communication

    • Understand the purpose of communication and use appropriate method of communication for the situation
    • Use clear and specific language utilizing “I” statements
    • Display active listening skills (e.g., reflecting, body language, asking for clarification, etc.)
    • Respond to phone and email messages in a timely manner
    • Use discretion when sharing information
    • Establish a system for information sharing and follow-up

    Public relations

    • Communicate articulately, knowledgeably, and appropriately for the audience
    • Adapt to changing situations and recognize the political and relational implications of actions
    • Use personal magnetism to maximize organizational visibility
    • Build relationships and utilize various networks and community connections to get desired results

    Strategic planning

    • Continually gather and analyze information from external and internal environments
    • Use information to anticipate potential challenges and changes
    • Use a wide range of information to set goals and priorities
    • Demonstrate leadership initiative throughout this process

    Supervisory skills

    • Provide direction and structure to support program staff and AmeriCorps members
    • Model excellence in core competencies and professional behavior
    • Maintain balance of work tasks and supervisee support
    • Assess and implement individualized supervision based on assessed needs, strengths and input from supervisee
    • provide clear and consistent expectations and communication.

    Teaching and training

    • Provide orientation, training, and ongoing supervision, and support to program staff and AmeriCorps members
    • Create an atmosphere of shared learning through opportunities for participation questioning, and sharing of personal experiences
    • Employ a variety of creative and diverse techniques suitable for audience to support learning goals
    • Incorporate a process of feedback to evaluate the effectiveness
    • Create clear objectives

    Computer skills

    • Demonstrate electronic document workflow skills such as document creation, file saving, file copying, making duplicates or backup copies

    Grant management

    • Serve as the grant manager for the AmeriCorps Formula Grant
    • Interpret and communicate AmeriCorps grant requirements
    • Ensure AmeriCorps program staff and members maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and CNCS agency policies and procedures
    • Monitor changes in federal regulations related to AmeriCorps and proactively develop agency preparation and response
    • Ensure that fiscal and program reports are submitted in a correct and timely manner
    • Develop and implement budgets, monitor expenditures, authorize purchases
    • Other duties as assigned

    Special Requirements: Must be 21 with a valid drivers license; access to a personal vehicle; willingness to work weekends

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

    Experience

    • Experience serving in a National Service program with a preference for AmeriCorps.
    • Experience supervising AmeriCorps Members or other national service program positions.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with a nonprofit organization, with volunteer management preferred.
    • Reliable transportation, good driving record and insurance required.

    Skills

    • Excellent verbal and written communication - eloquence on the phone, via email, and professional demeanor in person.
    • Comfortable with ambiguity and creating a structure
    • Ability & comfortability to problem solve on the fly
    • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
    • Excellent customer service & communication abilities

    • Ability to make effective presentations to small & large groupsAbility to use & learn to use designated software: Google Suite, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint), Airtable, Slack, Wrike, Asana, Wix, Exentbrite, Jotform, and other software.
