    Summary: Youth Empowerment for Advancement Hangout (YEAH) is a Black-led, community-based non-profit supporting teens and young adults in West and Southwest Philadelphia ages 15 to 24 who are impacted by violence. YEAH works to create safe and authentic hangout spaces by providing culturally relevant engagement and implementing teen led interventions to address the root causes of violence. Utilizing teen action through peer led mediation and conflict resolution, community engagement, and economic opportunities, YEAH interrupts the cycle of youth community violence. YEAH acknowledges teens and young adults as the experts of their own lives and prioritizes pushing back against oppressive systems and addressing structural barriers that often lead to violence.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    Job Requirements: Philadelphia resident or residency within 3 months required. We are looking for an energetic, flexible, and conscientious Paralegal to join our Violent Crime Initiative (VCI) team. Associated degree required. The candidate must have excellent writing and communication skills with 1-3 years’ experience working in a paralegal capacity. Additionally, the successful candidate must be willing to learn, work independently and in a team environment, and be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join a dynamic and growing legal team. Candidates who identify racially or ethnically as Black or Brown and have been personally impacted by the criminal legal system or violence (directly or indirectly) are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Prepare legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and briefs for adult and juvenile cases.
    • Attend court hearings and provide support for lead counsel.
    • Maintain and organize legal documents and files.
    • Interview witnesses in preparation for trial.
    • Prepare subpoenas for witness preparation. Confer with clients in preparation for trial
    • Draft correspondence to clients, attorneys, and agencies on behalf of attorney
    • File pleadings and motions using e-filing in Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Delaware County.
    • Assist attorneys and VCI team with legal research as well as the gathering and organization of evidence for trial.
    • Maintain and organize legal documents and files.
    • Interview and follow up with potential clients.
