Battier Guide Detroit is a new college and career preparatory program aimed at supporting approximately 30 students at University Prep (UPrep) Science and Math Charter School to apply for college, explore potential career paths, learn valuable soft skills of the professional world, and effectively network with local leaders and professionals. Job to begin in January or February 2025.

The Program Manager will be responsible for recruiting students, conducting college and career prep classes, fostering community partnerships, planning career exploration events, and reporting directly to the Battier Take Charge Director of Programs.

    • Review applications and conduct interviews of rising UPrep juniors and seniors to determine which applicants are admitted to the program.

    • Deliver BTCF Guide College and Career Prep curriculum through twice weekly in-school workshops focused on college readiness, career exploration, financial aid, and application processes.
    • Provide individualized support to students in navigating college admissions, including, but not limited to Common App support, SAT/ACT preparation, and essay writing.
    • Work with students to identify and apply to outside private scholarships.

    Community Partnerships:

    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, organizations, and higher education institutions to create opportunities for program participants. Ideally, the Program Manager will be able to draw on their own network, while effectively building relationships with the networks of existing partners.

    Career Exploration Events:

    • Plan and coordinate (at minimum) monthly events to expose students to various career pathways and opportunities.
    • Engage professionals to share their experiences and insights with program participants.

    Effective Communication:

    • Communicate weekly curriculum plans with the Director of Programs, discussing what went well and what could be improved, and any support that is needed.
    • Write and send a weekly program report to mentors, community partners, school staff, and BTCF staff to let everyone know what the students were engaged with that week and any upcoming events.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Experience working with diverse student populations, preferably in college access or youth development programs.
    • Strong knowledge of college admissions processes, financial aid options, and career development resources.
