    Description

    Girl Vow, Inc. is a city-wide nonprofit organization founded on the principle of gender-focused intensive mentorship for girls and gender expansive youth aged 12 to 24 impacted by foster care, juvenile justice, and poverty. The organization aims to provide girls and gender expansive youth with the foundation and support they lack through comprehensive, intensive mentorship, crisis management and aftercare, life skills workshops, and leadership opportunities. We work with girls at any stage of the juvenile justice process, and we are currently in secure and non-secure facilities throughout NYC, including Rikers Island and upstate prisons. Within the last year, we wrote legislation that was signed by the governor to establish a taskforce for missing and murdered women and girls of color. The law became effective March 26th, 2024.

    Girl Vow is seeking a Sexual Violence Prevention Program Coordinator to support one of our newest projects focused on sexual violence prevention with the NYS Department of Health. This role will be responsible for addressing the root causes of sexual violence in the community to be Girl Vow’s primary voice in the community when working towards the elimination of sexual violence and to assist community members in finding ways they can end sexual violence. This position will be responsible for coordinating and implementing prevention programming in settings such as, but not limited to, community centers, local businesses, schools, and other anti-violence agencies.

    The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to reach and engage community members and key partners to collaboratively develop, implement, and coordinate community-level violence prevention programming. The Sexual Violence Prevention Program Coordinator will help coordinate a community that aims to reduce sexual violence by engaging community members as partners to identify root causes of violence and opportunities for change and prevention.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with community members and leaders to increase partnerships and coalition building dedicated to implementing and sustaining sexual violence primary prevention strategies.
    • Identify and outreach to key community members most impacted by sexual violence and key partners.
    • Engage with community members and key partners to identify local impact and root causes of sexual violence.
    • Coordinate community members and key partners to identify priority prevention goals in at least one of three focus areas.
    • Coordinate implementation of community vision in partnership with the community.
    • Gather on-going feedback and adapt programming accordingly.
    • Promote awareness that sexual violence can be prevented.
    • Develop community partnerships and strategic relationships to reduce sexual violence rates.
    • Manage program deliverables and support with managing consultants and, or contractors.
    • Prepare program reports and assist with preparing grant proposals upon request.

    Qualifications:

    • Education background in public health, social work, or related fields.
    • Experience working in community engagement or community organizing.
    • Understanding of root causes of violence and community-level prevention and the socio-ecological model.
    • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings.
    • Experience building partner relationships across different fields.
    • Embody principles of health equity, cultural humility, and continued learning and growth as a professional.
    • Knowledge of the South Bronx community and its unique needs is a plus.
    • Bilingual in Spanish is highly desirable.
    • Must be willing to travel

    This is a four-year grant-funded position. Year 1 will focus on innovation, research, partnership, and capacity building. Year 2 will focus on planning, and Year 3 and 4 will focus on implementation.
