    Position Overview:

    Families USA seeks a creative and strategic Manager, Storytelling & Engagement Communications to amplify the voices of health care consumers and drive policy change. This role bridges storytelling, media relations, and digital engagement by curating and sharing lived experiences across diverse platforms.

    The Manager will cultivate partnerships with mission-aligned organizations, interview consumers, and manage a robust storytelling database to inform publications, campaigns, and media efforts. Collaborating with internal teams, they’ll creatively highlight these stories to engage stakeholders, including media, policymakers, and partners.

    This position ensures consumers’ challenges and triumphs are at the forefront of health care advocacy, fostering meaningful connections and advancing Families USA’s mission to achieve high-quality, affordable health care for all.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute an integrated storytelling strategy in partnership with the Director of Communications, aligning efforts across public relations, web, and social media platforms.
    • Build and maintain relationships with health care consumers and mission-aligned partners to expand and sustain Families USA’s story bank.
    • Identify and prepare consumer storytellers for a variety of platforms and events, including media interviews, Capitol Hill activities, and digital campaigns.
    • Write compelling, consumer-centered narratives for Families USA publications, social media, digital outreach, and media engagement.
    • Manage and maintain the storytelling database, ensuring it is current, organized, and reflective of diverse consumer experiences.
    • Support media and internal team requests for consumer stories by providing thoughtful recommendations and timely responses.
    • Stay informed on best practices in storytelling, health care policy, and engagement strategies to enhance content development and partnerships.

    Qualifications:

    A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, creative writing, English, or a related field is required, along with 3-5 years of professional experience in communications with a focus on storytelling and engagement.

    The ideal candidate is a proven communicator with exceptional writing, editing, and interpersonal skills and a passion for using storytelling to advance social justice and policy change. Candidates must demonstrate strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in AP and Chicago styles, Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with tools like EveryAction or Asana is preferred.

    A deep understanding of narrative frameworks and sensitivity in handling diverse and complex stories are critical for success. Bilingual proficiency is highly valued, along with a demonstrated commitment to Families USA’s mission of achieving high-quality, affordable health care for all.

    Benefits and Perks:
