    PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Lead the Alliance to End Hunger’s diverse membership to engage Congress and the Administration on global food security and nutrition policy.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

    • Serve as the primary advocate to Congress, the Administration, and the Alliance’s diverse membership on global food security and nutrition policy.
    • Conduct research and analyze issues to develop policy positions. Develop and present materials for a variety of audiences on policy positions as needed.
    • Represent the Alliance at coalition meetings and build consensus in support of global food security, global nutrition, and agriculture development.
    • Support the Alliance’s Global Advocacy Subcommittee and collaborate with coalition partners to engage the Administration, Members of Congress, and other stakeholders on relevant policy proposals.
    • Complete administrative requirements such as regular reporting, data management, timesheets, corporate credit card reports in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

    • Attend weekly departmental and team meetings and other internal meetings.
    • Serve as department representative on organizations’ task forces, as needed.
    • Assist other teams as needed. (Membership, Communications, Development).

    SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

    Occasional fellows and interns.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

    • Master’s Degree in international affairs, political science, public policy or related area preferred or the equivalent of six years’ relevant work experience.
    • A successful track record (at least four years) in relevant policy, agency, advocacy, or global food security/nutrition field experience.
    • Detailed knowledge of global food security, nutrition, and agriculture development.
    • Demonstrated an ability to create positive collaborative relationships with external partners; and possess a high degree of diplomacy and judgment to address and resolve substantive conflicts or escalate concerns to executive leadership.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to identify and engage target audiences and communicate complex ideas or issues tailored to the audience, using appropriate formats and media.
    • Strong public speaking skills, experience leading workshops and/or multi-stakeholder discussions required. Experience in utilizing and managing online communications tools, such as blogs and social networking sites.
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, including ability to conduct research and in-depth analysis of complex factors related to organizational issues and to make data-driven recommendations and decisions.
    • Experience working with diverse groups, including ability to simultaneously partner with corporate, non-profit, and faith-based stake holders.
    • A passion for ending hunger and malnutrition.
    • Candidates must be authorized to legally work in the United States.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT ISSUES:

    Candidate must live in the Washington, DC metro area. Attendance at various events on Capitol Hill and other meetings in Washington, DC will frequently be required. Limited teleworking may be available.
