    Description

    The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) has an immediate opening for a researcher capable of working in both Persian and English. This contract position is for a limited period and will support a project documenting violations of children's rights in Iran. The contractor will conduct a range of tasks including investigation and report writing work.

    The successful applicant will work closely with IHRDC human rights lawyers to compile reports on systemic human rights abuses inside Iran.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Research of current and historical events in Iran
    • Collection of documents related to human rights investigations, including documents from official Iranian sources, international organizations, NGOs, foreign governments, open-source information, photographs, and legal proceedings
    • Organization of collected documents
    • Conducting interviews of witnesses and survivors of human rights violations
    • Translation or document comparison between Persian and English versions of texts
    • Production of long-form investigative reports.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate degree required. Masters or Doctorate degree in Middle Eastern Studies, Iranian Studies, Human Rights, Law, or similar program preferred.
    • Prior publications related to the situation of human rights in Iran.
    • 2-4 years of research experience related to human rights. Experience in children's rights investigations preferred.
    • Fluent Persian and English language skills, including reading, writing and comprehension are required.
    • Strong attention to organization, detail, and accuracy;
    • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
    • Ability to meet tight deadlines and handle competing priorities;
    • Discretion and maturity in dealing with confidential information;

    Please note that travel to some countries, for business or in some cases personal reasons, while affiliated with IHRDC may not be advisable or even possible due to high security risks.
