    Description

    The Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources is a mission-driven nonprofit that inspires, educates, and empowers homeowners to increase the efficiency and value of their homes. Good-quality used and surplus building materials are received, processed, and then made available for purchase to the public at our retail storefront and through internet channels. Our prices are discounted for low- and moderate-income homeowners, which results in greater housing stability, wealth creation, and stronger communities.

    We are growing, and a recent building renovation has significantly increased our capacity. You will be an integral part of the team, assisting customers with their purchases, helping the retail operation run smoothly, and serving as an ambassador of the organization.

    This is a full-time, hourly position. The position is 40 hours per week, four or five days each week. Saturday work is required. The role is based at our facility in Roxbury Crossing.

    Essential Functions

    • Assist customers with purchases and ensure that all BBR customers receive the best possible service on the sales floor and at the point of sale.
    • Maintain proper handling of customer transactions and corresponding documentation.
    • Carry out BBR merchandising standards for all assigned areas.
    • Communicate effectively with store management regarding any observed opportunities for improvement.
    • Open and close the store as directed by the Reuse Center Manager.
    • Understand and implement safety protocols throughout the store.
    • Provide support to receiving team members as needed.
    • Accompany and assist truck driver with the collection of donated materials.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Strong verbal communication skills
    • Someone who enjoys interacting with customers
    • Team player who brings a positive, goal-oriented approach to their work
    • Knowledge of construction materials and basic building technologies preferred
    • Comfort communicating with email and basic working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
    • Passionate about safety
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs, move bulky objects safely, and stand for extended periods of time
    • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

    Boston Building Resources includes a consumer co-op and a nonprofit Reuse Center.

    The Co-op sells new materials, including semicustom cabinetry with kitchen design services, windows, doors, energy-conservation products, environmentally friendly products, and hard-to-find specialty items. As a consumer cooperative, the business focuses on quality and service over profit.

    The Reuse Center takes in donations of good-quality used and surplus building materials and sells them at steeply discounted prices. Additional discounts are offered to those who meet income guidelines. Reusable materials are spared from the landfill and sold at prices everyone can afford.
