    SPECIAL EVENTS SUPPORT SPECIALIST

    GENERATION CITIZEN

    Location: Hybrid

    ABOUT US

Generation Citizen offers tools for the rising generation to build civic skills and make America the inclusive multi-racial democracy that we need. We are transforming how civics is taught by providing equity-rooted, real-world civic education, which helps students understand exactly how governments function and how they can make a difference in the system. Through hands-on civic education, legislative advocacy and coalition building, and youth leadership development, we teach young people how to have a voice and become active citizens in their communities.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Special Events Support Specialist to join our diverse and inclusive team. As an equal-opportunity employer, we are dedicated to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be themselves at work. For this position, you will play a key role in coordinating and executing four statewide Civics Showcase events. These impactful events, co-sponsored with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, will provide a valuable experience for participants across Massachusetts. This individual will report directly to the Associate Director, Program (New England Region). This hybrid role will be primarily remote, with occasional travel required for in-person regional events.

    This is a temporary part-time, non-exempt position through June 15th, 2025.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Event Planning & Coordination (40%)

    • Coordinate and support execution of statewide Civics Showcase events.
    • Create and manage event materials, logistics, and timelines.
    • Facilitate pre-event and day-of-event activities and logistics.
    • In collaboration with the New England Region, the Massachusetts Department of Education (DESE) and the Anthem Group (venue management), to ensure smooth event execution and post-event follow-up.

    Outreach & Recruitment (40%)

    • Develop and implement recruitment plans for schools and community advisors.
    • Research appropriate participants, guests, and speakers.
    • Coordinate logistics for government officials and guest speakers.

    Evaluation & Analysis (20%)

    • Collect and analyze feedback from participants.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    • 1-2 years of experience in event planning, project management, coordination, or a related field.
    • Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Proficiency with Google Suite.
    • Access to reliable transportation.
    • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including educators and students is preferred.
    • Knowledge of the Massachusetts education landscape is a plus.
    • Passion for civic engagement and youth empowerment.

    NOTE

This position works primarily remotely but will be expected to travel no more than 30% of the time to attend. Required in-person opportunities include region-based Civics Day Showcase events, and preparation for assembling event materials and supplies.
