    As a Social Worker with The Women’s Project (TWP), you’ll help women and gender-nonconforming people who are being provided an alternative to pre-trial detention and incarceration through participation in the Project. Reporting to the TWP Program Manager, you’ll be a vital member of the team, ensuring that TWP has a robust intake process and that participants are connected to effective, trauma-informed interventions to support successful community reentry.

    What You’ll Do

    As a Social Worker with The Women’s Project (TWP), you’ll help women and gender-nonconforming people who are being provided an alternative to pre-trial detention and incarceration through participation in the Project. Reporting to the TWP Program Manager, you’ll be a vital member of the team, ensuring that TWP has a robust intake process and that participants are connected to effective, trauma-informed interventions to support successful community reentry.

    Your Responsibilities Will Include:

    • Managing all aspects of intake, including participant interviews and administration of needs/risk assessments tools.
    • Collaborating with defense counsel, external social workers, and service providers to design interventions for Project participants.
    • Producing high-quality, trauma-informed individualized service plans for bail applications.
    • Delivering gender-responsive care coordination for a caseload of participants, including the provision of community-based referrals and support in the areas of housing, health care, mental health care, substance use treatment, government benefits, family reunification, basic needs, and more.
    • Providing court support, including oral and written advocacy to judges and District Attorneys.
    • Providing crisis intervention and safety planning for participants as needed.
    • Developing relationships, resources, and referral partners throughout the NYC social service community of benefit to TWP participants.
    • Fulfilling TWP’s and funders’ documentation requirements including assessments, individualized service plans, progress notes, termination and transition plan summaries, and other relevant reports and metrics.

    You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

    • Master’s Degree in Social Work.
    • LMSW license (OR awaiting LMSW exam results or scheduled to take LMSW exam).
    • Bilingual fluency in Spanish (preferred but not required).
    • Experience providing services to people impacted by the criminal justice system and a working knowledge of the criminal justice system, ideally including experience working with attorneys and courts.
    • Experience with behavioral healthcare planning and using motivational interviewing techniques.
    • Demonstrable knowledge of and commitment to:

    o Alternatives to incarceration.

    o Gender-responsive and culturally competent services.

    o Trauma-informed care.

    o Person-centered and non-judgmental language when communicating about people with criminal legal involvement, substance use disorders, and mental health challenges.

    o Affirming spaces for LGBTQI+ participants.

    o Anti-racist principles.

    Compensation

    $68,000-$71,000

    The Women's Project (TWP) is a community-based program aimed at securing the release of women and gender-nonconforming people held in New York City's jails and preventing the incarceration of women in New York State prisons. TWP staff provide comprehensive care coordination, court support, wellness groups, employment and education assistance, and connections to treatment and housing.

    TWP is part of Wildcat Service Corporation, founded in 1972 by visionary social entrepreneur, Herb Sturz. It was the first organization in the United States to design and implement a transitional work program for unemployed people with criminal convictions. Each year Wildcat continues to assist thousands of individuals overcome economic and wellness barriers by providing employment opportunities, education, health, and social support. Wildcat joined The Fedcap Group (www.fedcap.org) in 2011.
